No reason for the Leafs to trade Dermott for a mid round pick. Hes a young, capable 3rd pairing defenseman with team control and a low cost. Its going to take a real asset of some kind, not a low % chance at a fringe NHLer.

No to the Eichel trade.

Zibs is a FA next year and he's not resigning here.

We don't need any more bad contracts like Trouba.

Laf is good, but not a center. Any Eichel trade should be bringing back a young center prospect.

The truth about an Eichel trade:
1. You will not get a player of the same calibre and same age or younger in return.
2. Buffalo has next to 0 leverage when it comes to moving Eichel
3. Money out means money in
4. As soon as you think of moving Eichel, you are starting from scratch. ( At which point you will need Quantity with Quality return)
5. Zib at 50% retained at the TDL will net you yet another A prospect and a 1st end pick

I think they will move Dermott if he isn't taken in the expansion draft.

1. They do not have a spot for him
2. He is just that a 3rd pair D man who can every once and awhile play in the top 4 or the right side 3rf pair that's his ceiling

And a young 3rd pairing right d who can fill a hole on occasion in the top 4 is worth more than a 4th. To the Leafs he's worth more because they will have holes all over the place in a few years on the right and left sides and Dermott is a known quantity who can fill one. As soon as next year, that 3rd pairing RHD spot for example. If Liljegren still cant fill it, its Dermotts to lose.

1. Nobody said anything about bringing a same caliber player back in a trade? The purpose of the Eichel trade should be getting good prospects and picks back. Not rentals and bad contracts.
2. Yea, the team that he's signed to for another 5 years has no leverage.
3. That doesn't mean you take back a horrible contract back.
5. No that's just dumb. A player can always get injured or Zib could have a bad season next year. You get the 1st and the prospect in the Eichel trade, not trading a guy at the deadline.

the 2nd point here is a big one. one can absolutely ague that now (this summer) is the best time to move him, but by no means are their hands tied
