Fair Eichel Deal

Description
Not a sens fan just a thought experiment to see what it would cost. Only untouchables I see in the entire organization are Tkachuk and Stutzle. Maybe Chabot, but he doesn't fit the Sabres needs regardless.

(At least the value is more accurate than the Joe Thornton trade)

FYI: All Sabres fans have called this an underpay and all sens fans have called it an overpay. Be realistic and balanced people

The fact that this is an inter-division trade means it will never happen. If you’re trading Jack Eichel within the division the price is higher, and this doesn’t meet it. Nobody trades a Ferrari for three Toyotas.

The value of Logan Brown is drastically down from where it was when he was drafted. Hes essentially a change of scenery throw in to the deal. And Jake Sanderson was the only early first round pick in this deal that still has early first round value. All the others were pretty late. I'd probably switch the first rounder from 2021 to 2022 because that pick is gonna be later in the round, but the Sabres might see the more recent pick as a necessity in a trade

How exactly is this not increased value due to it being interdivision. Greig and JBD were late first, but Sanderson and 2021 are early firsts. Not to mention Norris whos already a capable 2C and a rehabilitation project on Logan Brown. I think thats more than the "4 first round assets" that was originally rumored. Also, Buffalo isnt the team that hates trading interdivision, they just gave Taylor Hall away for pennies on the dollar to their biggest rival. Ottawa doesnt like doing it, but Dorion only hated trading inter-division because he was selling off pieces. He's probably totally okay trading in the Atlantic if he the one buying

Taylor Hall trade is an exception case because of a no movement clause and Taylor Hall demanding only to go to Boston. You don’t trade a 24-year-old Superstar center to a division rival where he can torture you for the next decade. I like Norris, but Sanderson is another left-handed shooting defenseman that the Sabres no longer need because they have plenty of them. Prospects that haven’t proven anything at the NHL level are a crapshoot, never trade a superstar based on maybes. If Tim Stutzle is not in the deal I’m not interested.

If you don't believe this haul is fair value, you are going to be one angry Sabres fan when Eichel does get his wish and you see the actual return he fetches.

That may be, but especially in light of the O’Reilly trade hanging over their heads the Sabres cannot afford to get fleeced. And trading their best player for a bunch of lottery tickets does not inspire confidence in a Fanbase that is tired of losing. Nobody’s going to buy tickets to watch this team lose if they make no attempt to get any better. Seeing as the owners only care about money I doubt they would accept that. Trading Jack Eichel and banking on Shane Wright or Brad Lambert is basically throwing your entire future on an 18-year-old kid like they did six years ago.

What left handed defenseman besides Dahlin actually is top 4 caliber. Johnson and Samuelsson might get there, but it shouldn't be stopping you from wanting to get Sanderson, especially if you do the smart thing and not draft Power. Also, trading Eichel signals a rebuild, you can't expect to get a ton of proven pieces in a deal where youre signaling a rebuild. Norris is a guaranteed top 2 center. Sanderson has top pair potential and he only needs to be a second pair guy because Dahlin, JBD has top 4 potential too and the top 10 pick can be used to get another dart throw in this wildcard top 10 of this draft.

Also: Eichels NMC kicks in next season so the Sabres would really regret if they passed on this package now when Eichel controls where he goes July 1 2022

I think this might be a bit of an overpay (Buffalo fan). You can probably drop Brown and the 4th from the deal. I'm gonna play around with the trade myself.

Ottawa has 4 untouchables: Chabot, Tkachuk, Stuetzle, and Sanderson.

That being said, I do believe they're in quietly on Eichel:

I am temporarily also counting McCabe because when paired with Risto they formed one of the best defense of pairings in the league last season before he got hurt. In light of his injury I don’t imagine he gets a ton of options in free agency this summer. It’s not unlikely he could come back and play with Risto again as Buffalo’s top pairing. Samuelsson and Johnson both have top 4 potential, and I really like what Bryson showed this season. Sticking another guy into that mix steals ice time from one of the others and I would rather not do that. If Sanderson were right hand shot he would be a more welcome addition right now.

Contrary to popular opinion Buffalo still holds all the cards with Eichel. He’s not going to retire if he doesn’t get his way, and he isn’t going to throw away $50 million just because he doesn’t want to play in Buffalo. My dad had an interesting point, even if they waited until next season they can simply tell Jack waive your no movement clause or you’re not going anywhere. They are under no obligation to trade him no matter what he wants. If they don’t get the offer they want he doesn’t go anywhere. It may not be a good look, but what can he do about it? Badmouth the organization in the press, who cares? They don’t exactly have a great reputation right now anyway. He isn’t going to retire and throw away his prime until his five year contract is expired. He has to show up and play until the trade buffalo wants happens, or until he gives up on it.

add Batherson since RW is a weak spot for OTT and since Norris is Brady's best friend, trading him will piss off Brady

Norris would be high on the list and hard to get out of Ottawa but wouldn't be untouchable. Batherson wouldn't be untouchable at all. He's a 60 point winger with decent defence to his game - those aren't guys you build around and they're easier than you think to replace m. An "untouchable" is someone you build around.
