So if Seattle doesn’t take Vanecek, I’d be willing to do a trade similar to this after expansion. But I’d ask for a little more from Chicago just because Samsonov showed that when he’s not sick/injured, he’s a very good goalie. Very very good. I’d love if another caps fan could chime in on this trade.

Yes I think this has legs and I agree we prob have to add or do a pick swap but helps both teams.

I would see the Caps shopping Samsonov before expansion to try to get expansion-exempt pieces for him. Trying to add a center to replace Kuznetsov makes sense if they're committed to moving Kuznetsov. He just said he hopes to stick around in an interview yesterday, so hopefully that's still an option. But if the team is set on trading Kuznetsov, then being able to trade him without needing to replace him at center could open up a lot more offers, and maybe let the Caps get better overall value out of moving two players they probably shouldn't trade.
