Description
Melnyk talked about needing a Defensive D-men (I suppose to pair with chabot) And a veteran Centerman with leadership qualities.

He said the team would go in ''seek and destroy'' mode to find those peices, whatever that means lol.

Here are 2 trade proposals

1. Giroux + extension - Using the Pacioretty trade as framework

2. Parayko - Not a lot of precedent here in matter of trades: D-man of his caliber being delt recently include Trouba and Mcdonagh. I suspect Trouba to ask for 6.5M as of next year. As blues will enter cap crunch, they may opt to trade Parayko as he will be defenseman with most value. Historically, D-man on verge of long-term promotion haven't commanded too much on the market, but a 1st rounder seems to be the starting point. In the case of Parayko, I think a 1st rounder + Brown + Daccord is fair value. Now, blues will need a RHD replacement, and Zaitsev should be a very decent fit for them + as it is considered a negative value contract they also get a 2nd + a 3rd as a deal sweetener.

blues are not trading Parayko and trading for Giroux would be the epidemy of stupidity

Giroux is way too old considering we (Old Man Mel) wouldn't even sign a 26 year old mark stone.

I don't think Blues are going to trade Parayko, and definitely not for that deal. Zaitsev is definitely not it when it comes back. It was a nice try but no. When Toronto is speaking about one of their big four coming back for him. Army declined all of those deals. Basically shows you can't really do much unless you trade someone really good back, and the guys you have that are really good is a waste of your time trying to trade for Parayko with them. Tkachuk isn't moving, Chabot isn't moving. Stutzle isn't available, and Norris isn't available. The only way Parayko is traded is in a massive deal that actually benefits us. This benefits the Blues in no way, shape, or form. This is only really makes sense from Ottawa's point of view. Yes Cap situation is coming up I understand, but quite a bit of cap is coming off the books for us too. Bozak 5M, Gunnarson 1.75M, Steen's huge deal. Hoffman on 4 Million. If we can offload Scandella that's another 3.25 Million. That right there is around 14 Million dollars in cap space. Replace them with young prospects that are on ELCs to keep the cap from going over. Don't forget Salary Cap is going to be going up again. So it's going to be interesting to see how this will work.

I have a simple question to ask: Do you prefer White or Giroux for the next 4 years? As they will make give or take the same money. For me the answer is a no brainer. Not even thinking twice. Especially, since Ottawa plan is to enter a competitive window in the next few years.

White has shown... frankly... nothing. Giroux still has unbelievable underlying numbers. Is a top 5 faceoff guy in the league. Has amazing intangibles. He is like an on-ice coach.

He is getting old. But his game is translating so well. Because he is smart. Like Patrice Bergeron (who is older and as good as ever). I expect him to maintain a great level of hockey and be a massive upgrade over white. So much so that i am willing to part ways with a 2nd and Greig.

rather keep White and the assets and see what Pinto can do as 2C than trade for Giroux

Giroux and Pinto are interchangeable as 2C / 3C. We are missing a veteran C because White just plain sucks.

Melnyk wants a Veteran C but he will never pay White + extra C. We need to acquire that C by sending White the other way.

Giroux will not waive for OTT and if OTT has to send any significant pieces to get Giroux it is not worth it for them, Giroux is not long term, paying any good prospect or top picks for him would be stupid.
