Description
1st off, get Jarry outta the net for game 6 and let him have some practice time Have Desmith start and Lagacy backup. Next we move a big guy to Crosby's line. Malkin is big, and likes to lay the body, also he did well when he came out of the box when Rust scored. Next thing is to keep the Carter-Kapanen chemistry. They've done well with pressure and have put together alot of chances for the pens. Another thing to do is to keep the McCann-Gaudreau chemistry together, for the same reason why the Carter-Kapanen duo should stay. Last ting to do is shake up the d-pairings. Move Matheson with Letang to get that Offensive fire power and the two-way play by Letang. Move Dumo down with Marino to get the fire power by Dumo, who puts pucks on net, and the speed by Marino. Last you move Pettersson with Ceci. Pettersson is a defensive defensmen, so put him with Ceci who has that offensive upside. Also you keep that 4th line. They've done well with putting pressure on offensively and defensively, and actually know how to lay the body.

Theoretically, what's the outlook with Jarry if they make the switch and win? I'd assume DeSmith would start game 7 as well (provided he doesn't crap the bed and the win is a shootout). Then what?

Would you roll with DeSmith vs Boston if they won the series, or do you go back to Jarry after a week to clear his mind. I do think Jarry is the better goalie, but since he hasn't been playing well, it's tough. Unless DeSmith plays terrific (which admittedly he'd probably have to do for PIT to advance), I do think they should go back to Jarry at some point, whether that be game 1 or if DeSmith has a bad game. All this assuming that they feel Jarry is mentally ready or whatever.

I do like the idea of moving Malkin up. Both for the big body like you said and to get that McDavid/Drai effect that they hope can power through Sorokin. I can't really comment on the D changes you made since I'm not too familiar with the strength and weaknesses of these guys, but what you said makes sense.

I do think that Desmith should start game 6 no matter what. If he gets the W and plays well then have him play game 7. If we move on and play BOS we start Jarry and get him back in there to see if he has improved from game 5. I agree with you that Jarry is the better goalie, but after the past 2 games, he needs to think and practice more.

Is Desmith even healthy? I’m an isles fan, so it’s not my fight, but see game 2 and 3 for reference. The islanders started their goalie fresh off an injury and played like crap. It’s too risky if I’m Sullivan. Elimination game, you can’t throw the injured goalie or 3rd string into the fire.

There is no cap space in the post season (look at Tampa and the kucherov situation). And what do you have to lose...? Pens aren’t down 3-0 or 3-1 like Florida was. It’s game 6. A few lucky pucks go the Penguins way and they are up 3-2. Jarry made one mistake, and granted, it was the worst goalie error I’ve seen in ages, but the series is still retrievable.

There is no CAP space in playoffs, Desmith is hurt or he would have played already. Everyone in the organization has said the Jarry is the teams goalie of the future. if that's the case, then they need to ride him out in this series. if he's not the future, then why didn't you trade for one during the season???

As far as the lines go, I love the forward combinations. Your reasoning makes perfect sense and I agree with it. The defensive pairings would be a gamble. The parings have done very well through out the year and I'd rather not mess with that chemistry. I ABSOLUTELLY DO NOT want Matheson with Letang on the top pairings. I don't trust Jarry to cover up for their defensive mistakes.

And while this is a "Do or Die" situation, the team hasn't played that bad (other than game 4) to warrant a complete overhaul like you're suggesting. This is just a case of one team capitalizing on it's chances while the other team is not. If Sorokin gave up the puck like that to one of our guys not named Sid, they would have missed the net... or tried to pass it.

people can look at it and say "the pens couldn't score more than 2 goals" which is true but that's based off of sorokin stopping 50 shots making improbable saves and the isles getting 20 shots and scoring 3 goals. and the third goal probably being one of the worst goals i've seen in playoff history. now i do think jarry made some nice saves in the first OT when the isles got some chances. i do think they can win this in 7 because of their unwillingness to give up. 1) zuck needs to get off genos line. geno played well but zuck didn't look like he wanted to score for some reason. i'd go 16-87-17, 59-71-42, 19-77-11, and the 4th line to start the game. as it progresses u may make changes but this gives u the best chance with a different look. let's pray for the pens in 7!
