Shedding more vets for assets

Description
I actually think the Ducks are in a really good place for a rebuild - save for perhaps their poor goaltender, who you wish was 3 years younger so his prime would last longer and occur more conveniently.

While some vets (Getzlaf) are set to (probably) leave, others (Silfverberg) might not be as valuable anymore as trade pieces, but some (Rakell) still could net some decent returns. Plus they could keep just enough quality vets (Fowler) to foster the young kids.

Finally, I may be way off base, and I know he's 29 and hardly a spring chicken, but I think Granlund is a perfect UFA for Anaheim to grab this offseason. He can play throughout the top 6 where they need him to, he offers experience, and he will be better than Henrique without costing as much money. He provides a bit of a buffer for some of the younger players I think, plus he'll get way more opportunities especially if he's moved back to center. I also think the trades and signings below give them enough cap space over the next few years to re-sign their RFAs, while providing some short term trade chips who can - in the mean time - help out throughout the lineup.

Here's just an idea from an outside observer looking in.

Yeah this was the one I had the least confidence in. I was just looking for teams that could use an extra top 6 or top 9 winger, and the easiest choice was LA, but no WAY Anaheim does any deal with LA I don't think

I don't know...I don't think you really worry about Rico at this point. Not a ton of point doing all of this just to make the lateral move of getting Granlund IMO. Edmonton could probably just buyout Neal, and get Granlund themselves if they really wanted to.

I'd love to get a bit of value out of Silfverberg, but don't see it happening without retention.

I feel like Rakell likely gets a 1st+so/so prospect instead of Tippett+2nd+3rd. Tippett seems like a playoff-type player, where it's more valuable to bang and crash, so I'd assume the Panthers would prefer to hold onto him.

I'd prefer to get a 2nd+meh prospect for Manson if we're intent on moving him. Personally, I'd rather keep him to eat up some of the dirty minutes so we can actually ease Drysdale in, as opposed to throwing him to the wolves like we did this year. I'd also assume it's one of him, Shatty or Fleury who ends up going in the expansion draft. Stolarz would be a wildcard pick, but is still more likely to get picked than Volkov, IMO.

It'd be interesting to see who he has on his NTC too. A lot of guys have the Canadian teams on there to avoid the high income tax rates.

    All great points! Totally understand

I think there's a bit more value and potential to Tippett maybe - I see him as a maybe better Patric Hörnqvist-type player, in which case he could fit in the top 6 of most teams. I also think since Florida already has Hörnqvist himself as well as Denisenko, that Rakell is an upgrade they can afford.

I'm not sure Manson is worth that much, although I can understand wanting it. He just hasn't been able to show enough the past two years, at very little fault of his own. I think they should keep Fleury or at least make room for younger D so I would keep one of him or Shattenkirk. On that note I based the Volkov decision on my own opinion plus a couple mock drafts done by some pros. It's almost impossible to predict these things, but with the amount of quality defense out there I think they're more likely to take more swings at young forwards who might do better with increased opportunity, like Volkov. I also always forget how there were just some nothing picks (Methot, Berube) that barely had any roster impact at all. So who the heck knows lol.

I love the Rakell trade so much I would do it without the third.

I wouldn't want to trade Silfverberg for junk or Manson below value.

I think that we need a veteran center if Getzlaf retires. Trusting the middle to Steel, Zegras and a guy who is better at wing than center is the recipe for another bottom-6 finish.

I guess the question about the Manson proposal is whether the Jets are on his no-trade list. His father played in Winnipeg when Josh was a kid so maybe there are photos of him as a 3-5 year old in Jets PJs.

Idk I don't think it's an accident that Nashville moved him to the wing and he's struggled, whereas his best years were as the 1 or 2C in Minnesota. Sometimes I also just can't shake seeing a player in a certain jersey when I'm looking at UFAs and fits and for me its Granlund on the Ducks. Although I totally understand the vet point. I guess I was counting on leadership by committee (Ryan, Fowler, Shattenkirk, etc.)

Agree completely on Manson. My main point is that it's probably more valuable for them to keep him and ease Drysdale in as opposed to giving him away for nothing. I just don't see Niku being any sort of answer long term, other than the fact that he's a RD that can fill a spot next year. It's definitely "fair" value, I wouldn't argue that at all. If we could shed Shatty instead, I'd be pretty content. He's a complimentary piece on a solid team, which we definitely aren't tears of joy

No argument from me on Tippett either, and the more I think about it, the more entertaining I think a Comer-Zegras-Tippett line would be.
