You're whole description is so false. They've dominated Montreal this entire series so far. & in terms of previous first rounds, no one looks it in terms of context:
vs Washington: Leafs weren't supposed to make the playoffs that year and took the president's trophy winning team to 6 games. Nothing wrong with that.
vs Boston: I believe the first time they faced Boston, the Bruins finished 3rd overall in the league and the Leafs were clear underdogs that series. They fell behind 3-1 in the series and still forced game 7 where they lost to a top 3 team in the league. Nothing wrong with that.
vs Boston: again, Boston was a top 5 team and although Toronto was better, they still weren't favourites to win the series but most that they had a good shot. They shoulda closed that series out in 6 when they had the series lead but again Boston was a top 5 team with proven playoff veterans and that's a tough job. That Boston team went to game 7 of the cup final that year.
vs Columbus: this one is a little disappointing but again taking a step back it wasn't much of a shock. Leafs were the favourite and shoulda won but the Columbus team they faced finished that season 9th in the East and Toronto finished 8th. A lot of that expectation came from the media. Columbus was also a team that was more proven in the playoffs having beat one of the historically great Tampa teams the year before, so they knew how to win.
I think so far, sure it's been disappointing a bit. But they haven't been in easy situations. Now they're clearly favoured in every area of the series against Montreal, and they lose their captain 10 minutes into the first period of game 1. If they lose this series, the questions need to be asked based on this years group. But to say they've been a mediocre first round team is overreacting a lot. & they're running Montreal's show this series so far.
