I dont watch too many Avs games, but with Byram, Makar, and Girard, I'm shocked to hear the 8th/9th OA is a lowball offer. Is that really the case?

I would do that deal in a heartbeat. And I think that it's right on value. But Sakic has worked so hard to create a fabulous defensive unit that I doubt he would break it up even for the eighth or ninth overall pick.

Not a lowball offer at all -- you guys set the value for him only last off-season: two late seconds. And a top-10 first and top-10 fourth is a far higher price.

The offer is right, but Toews' value to the Avs outweighs that. You're confusing what Toews' value IS versus what his value would be IF Colorado wanted to move him.

For a top pairing dman on a team that is a Stanley cup contender what in the world is the impetus to trade for a 1st round pick in a weak draft. The Avs don’t even consider it.

That’s not how this works. NYI was in cap crunch and had to do something. What COL traded for him has nothing to do with his value. Can you argue he had his best year ever yeah, but you were in the right spot saying the Avs are doing it because the offer isn’t enough. That’s why so many other commenters are calling it low ball.
