Yeah, he’d be making probably at least twice that if he had any interest in going anywhere else. He made over $50 million as a player and he loves Carolina. The only reason his contract took this long is because he wanted the contracts of the rest of his coaching staff done first.

No. The Tampa Bay discount and the flat cap (like @Brian2016 mentioned) will see to it that he doesn’t. The only way anyone makes over $12.5 million per year before the end of McDavid’s contract is if MacKinnon (in 2 years), Matthews (in 3 years), or Draisaitl (in 4 years) hit the UFA market years and someone overpays to get them.

I think Point could even take a discount - I’d argue he already signed at a discount and if he takes one again Point could make TBL scary (discount being like 8.5)

If I’m Point and Tampa fixes their structural cap problems slightly and everyone else is buying in and I get 8.5-10 from Tampa with 6-8 years versus 11 from Detroit; I’d rather go Tampa. Especially if Tampa wins the cup; 2 cups and a team buying in could spell a potential attempt at a dynasty

I mean no disrespect to the Detroit rebuild, but I’m not in love with them. I’d rather head to LA or OTT currently if I was going to a rebuilding team.
