Description

Kessel's not really the puck possession guy the Avs typically go for, but as an offensive X factor he could be good if used in the right situations. Also a proven playoff performer and great on the PP. This would only really work if SEA takes a forward (Donskoi or Compher) instead of Graves and if EJ started on LTIR to give the Avs some extra cap space to play with. If all that happens I think extending Saad is more likely than trading for Kessel but I felt like making this anyway

With Tocchet gone and ARZ not contending I think ARZ would/should be open to trading him. He had a decent year and im not sure what the return would look like so I used the Hall trade value as a guide. Id be happy if they could get him for a 2nd+ but wouldnt hate it if he cost a late 1st. He has an 8 team trade list which could actually benefit the Avs if Kessel thinks COL is a desirable place to play (Which I imagine it would be to him) since he could list other teams with no cap space

Youre probably right. I think Graves is more likely to be taken (mainly due to age) but there are also likely to be a lot more good D available than forwards so maybe SEA would opt for a forward instead. Donskoi has had a pretty good year too

Why not pay a little more and get Reinhart for a year? Change the 2nd to a 1st and it might work. He's almost certainly going for trade deadline prices.

Idk you think that gets Reinhart? Also whomever trades for Reinhart isn’t going to want him to be a true rental but I would really be down with a 2nd line having Newhook and Reinhart holding 2 of those spots.

Situation Buffalo is in, it might. Colorado is one of the teams where bringing him in as a rental then trying to sell him on staying is a real option. If his heart is set on at least exploring a return home to Vancouver, Colorado still gets a legit run at the Cup with him.

That's what I was thinking too. I swapped Burakovsky with Landy to try to spread out the shoot first guys a bit. Maybe put Landy back on the top line and use Burakovsky-Newhook-Kessel then Kadri with Jost and Nichushkin? Newhook with 2 shooters makes sense so they can use them in a primarily offensive deployment to shelter Newhook and also keep Kessel out of the D zone

Yeah that makes sense I would like to see Landy and Kadri for more than a stint to see if they could drive teams insane. I think if there was ever a team that could get Kessel to play a modicum of defense it would be this team.
