This is going to sound biased, but Hellebuyck IMO should be right there with Vasy for the Vezina. IMO vasy will win but I think Hellebuyck will get the runner up. Pretty sure Hellebuyck is now the leader in the NHL for goals saved above expected, his wins above replacement is the highest for goalies and most minutes played for goalies.

Now, with all that being said. Vasy’s numbers like SV% and GAA are definitely better and he has more wins. So yes I do think Vasy wins, but I think Hellebuyck will be the runner up. I think Vasy wins by a good amount too.

Hart = Jack Hughes
Selke = Jack Hughes/Nico Hischier
Norris = Severson/Smith
Vezina = Blackwood
Calder = Sharangovich/Smith

I would have Barkov in my Selke list

Had him #1 in the rankings around the midseason but then his defence dialed down a little. To me, Barkov (or Stone for that matter) as a winner is reputation bias at this point

I think Makar is the best dman in the NHL. I also think a lot of voters are going to rationalize not voting him 1st by games missed, or giving credit to d-mates. That being said I fully expect Fox to win.

I don’t think that’s a biased take at all. However, the basic stats are going to hurt his chances. In addition, Vasilevsky and Fleury have been dominant all season whereas Hellebuyck was slightly underperforming in the beginning of the season imo (not that he was struggling)

Idk I would absolutely explode if they award Fox the Norris, but the lack of playoffs bias concerns me too much. Especially when John Klingberg didn’t even get a nomination in 2018.

No I totally agree. The advanced stats only take you so far. He did struggle early, and his SV% and GAA will hurt him. Fleury honestly probably ends up ahead of him too.

Yeah I think Makar is kinda in a league his own. PPG, 60+ Corsi, 13+ xGD, he just absolutely tilts the ice when he is playing. Some voters will knock him for having such a high OZS% but I mean if you were the coach isn’t that exactly what you would do? Fox has been real good for the Rangers, and let’s face it he had that crazy game where he literally made like 4 goal saving plays that was run on a loop for a while. He is at least a deserving candidate.

I usually hate these lists like crazy, but I think you actually at least fit the best candidate in your top 5 for every single category, so I'm super happy.

Maybe Selke is the one exception, but as per how the award is usually handed out you have som great candidates. Niederreiter and more importantly Nichuskin would look really good on there too, but whatever.

Now, finally, for all the Norris-chatters in here. I have no idea why you throw out the usual arguments for playing in a good environment except when it comes to Makar. Colorado just puts him in maybe *the* best position for a defenseman in this league to succeed. Hamilton, Fox and McAvoy are absolutely amazing. Even Spurgeon thanks to his level of defensive play should probably be a nominee. I am *so* comfortable with Makar being behind every single one of them. Theodore and even guys like Orlov too.

Now, Hamilton and McAvoy play a lot with some pretty great players as well. But the difference is the relative effect. The Bruins and Canes top lines with McAvoy and Hamilton are absolutely tearing teams apart. Without those two, not at all as much. This just isn't true for Makar. This is why I don't enjoy Rantanen being on here either. MacKinnon has the best offensive output in the league without being poor defensively. It's okay. We can just credit him with that. Landeskog is an incredible defensive forward. Devon Toews is an incredible defensive defenseman. Makar and Rantanen are really good complementary pieces. I wish, I really wish, we could see them in any other environment to prove my point, but the next best thing is using isolated metrics. These tell us that Makar and Rantanen are really, really good, but that they don't belong in these types of conversations.

Kane would be the Hart front runner (besides McDavid) for the first half of the season.
Barkov is close, but neither of them are top 5 selke candidates this year. Too much emphasis on reputation.

Chychrun deserves a nomination but doubt the NHL gives him one. Lankinen should be in over Shesterkin imo, slightly more games played and similar numbers on a worse team

Ngl it was tough to leave Chychrun off (along with Weegar) but I don't think he's at the level of superstar yet. I have to strongly disagree with Lankinen however. I'm guessing you're maybe looking at SV% but there's a large gap between GSAx and WAR. (3.0 > -14.3 and 0.50 > -2.38)

And he is, I'm not trying to deny that. My favorite ratings for Selke are xGA/60 and CA/60
