In my opinion Philly does this trade because it fills a big need at RD and they are able to upgrade at center in a Strome for Patrick swap. I get that Patrick is still young, and has potential to be a good hockey player... I don’t know if he ever reaches that potential especially with the flyers. If they wanted to trade him now they could probably get an established but younger guy like Strome. The way I see it they get the two best players in the deal right now.

In my opinion the Blackhawks do this because they have fallen out of love with Strome. I wish this weren’t the case, but it seems enevitable that he will be moved this offseason. They get another middle six option in this deal largely in return for Strome... but they probably are probably most excited with who they are going. to pick at 13. Even if this deal dosent exactly work with Philly fans I think packaging Strome with another player is the best way to move him. Murphy was/is an invaluable piece on the blue-line, but they should seriously consider moving him so they can lean into the rebuild a little bit more. (and stay out of the mushy middle that they have been in the past two years). This move frees up a roster spot on D, and depending on what they do in free agency, this could mean sink or swim for a couple of prospects. I’m not convinced they will move him, but it makes sense if they choose to rebuild properly.

I’ve gone after Seth Jarvis in posts before and I still think a Kubalik for Jarvis 1 for 1 is equally mutually beneficial. However, this trade will target a different prospects/players in their system.

I like how you addressed how both Strome and Patrick need a change of scenery while making it a part of a bigger trade.

Being a hawks fan, if I’m the flyers, you still need to give Patrick more time. His upside could still be very high, it’s too early to give up. Plus to it’s too early to give up for Murphy and strome.
That still doesn’t make them a contender plus you give up a former #2 and a first rounder for it.
Chicago would need to give up more in my opinion.
Oh and I would suggest Stan make that trade for next years 1st rounder.
Like I said it still doesn’t push philly over the hump so that could be a potential good pick. I’d rather have 2 chances next season vs this season.

    This Carolina trade is intriguing.

Jarvis is off the table, in any deal right now short of like Eichel. He was so hot when he started in the AHL that we saw a flash of his potential in a professional league and he was dominant. Kubalik is a great player, but he's not worth moving Jarvis for. This makes some sense though. Suzuki is a great prospect, and Bean is sgtarting to become what he was projected to be. My only concern is that this deal may need to be done before the expansion draft to ensure that Carolina do not lose Bean to Seattle. If they do protect Bean, it's then likely they lose Hamilton which would mean Bean is far more desirable than previously thought. In terms of value and need, I like this deal a lot.

Since both players are expansion exempt I think Carolina would love to have this deal before the expansion draft. However, assuming the previous moves are made it’s difficult to protect bean and for obvious reasons that’s a problem. I’m not sure what to do about that problem to be honest.

From what the organization has said, they agree completely. This hypothetical trade is possible only if the rumor is true that Patrick wants a trade and Philly accommodates rather than keep an unhappy, struggling player. Having said that, it's an interesting proposal and some good thought went into it. I don't think I'd bite if I am CF, but I commend Stan_Bowman here for the creative proposal.

I don't see why we would trade Murphy. Defense is an issue for the Hawks as right now we have a bunch of bottom 3 prospect/players.

Boqvist definitely isn't ready for 1st line duties, Stillman is a even worse solution, and Kalynuk is our best LHD prospect right now. kubalik is the 3rd best producer on the team right now.

So we've given up 2 of our best defensive players in these trades (Kalynuk, and Murphy), our top 3 goal scorer (Kubalik), Strome for Nolan (who's shown way less then Strome), Bean (rather would have Kalynuk), Suzuki (unproven and less then a .5ppg player in the AHL), and the 13th overall pick in a horribly weak draft outside of the top 10? I don't get the logic. This team is easily worse then the team this past season for a gamble that Nolan figures it out, Suzuki who didn't look great in the AHL, Bean becomes a top liner and better then Kalynuk and a 13th OA in a weak draft. Hawks are taking all the risk here but I'm sure Carolina and Philly like it as such.
