Who would you like to see Ottawa draft at 10th overall

Description
Since lotteries are not meant to be won, Ottawa will be drafting at 10th overall if these three things happen:

1. If Vancouver fails to win 3 of their last 4 games of the season

2. If Ottawa and all the teams that finished ahead of Ottawa in the standings fail to win the draft lottery.

3. If Ottawa does not trade their 1st round pick on draft day

Assuming Ottawa finishes where they are in the standings, the Sens would have about a 72% chance of picking 10th overall, according to Tankathon.

If that happens, who would you like to see Ottawa draft at 10th Overall?

Let me know your thoughts and I'll see you in the comments :)

Here are the most pressing positional needs Ottawa should address at the right opportunity.

        1. A #1 centreman if Stutzle is better suited at LW

        2. A 2nd line RW that shoots right and is either a power forward or can score goals in bunches.

        3. A top 4 RD that shoots right and can play well in a pairing with Chabot if neither Lassi Thomson nor JBD are the answer.
        CGY
These are the 10 players I think Ottawa should consider drafting and the likelihood that they would be available at 10th overall:

          1. Matthew Beniers (C) University of Michigan -- Highly Unlikely

          2. William Eklund (C) Djurgardens -- Highly Unlikely

          3. Dylan Guenther (RW) Edmonton Oil Kings -- Highly Unlikely

          4. Brandt Clarke (RD) HC Nove Zamky/Barrie Colts -- Highly Unlikely

          5. Kent Johnson (C) University of Michigan -- Unlikely

          6. Fabian Lysell (RW) Lulea -- 50/50

          7. Chaz Lucius (C) University of Minnesota -- 60/40

          8. Mason McTavish (C) EHC Olten/Peterborough Petes -- 65/35

          9. Cole Sillinger (C) Sioux Falls Stampede -- Very Likely

          10. Aatu Raty (C) Karpat -- Very Likely

Who should Ottawa draft at 10th overall?

He doesn't have to be on this list, so let me know :D

Aatu Raty going in the top 10 would be a HUGE misplay.

If Ottawa gets 10th, and guys like:

Johnson, Lysell, Eklund, Sillinger are available; you go for them.

As you don’t even have Owen Power in the top 10 and it’s almost a sure fire bet that he will be gone in the top 3 if not 5. I’m not a giant fan of Powers but he’ll be selected, if not then someone will be getting a steal. As I said I’m not a fan of Powers but he’s a safe pick. I think taking a gamble on Lucius if he falls to 10 would be unreal for the Sens.

Lucius and Sillinger for me; for Ottawa.

Clarke, Eklund, Lysell, Lucius, and McTavish in that order from me. All of which are likely wingers in the NHL but I think with the right developmental environment Lucius could be a center.

Johnson seems RNH-lite which is fine, but not what the Sens really need and it's a very weak draft for centers this year.

Exactly. You have to take a forward imo. Order of players that might be available at 10 by how I’d take them:
          1) Kent Johnson
          2) William Eklund
          3) Fabian Lysell
          4) Mason McTavish
          5) Chaz Lucius

One of these 5 will for sure be there at 10

Why do ppl hate on Johnson when he’s a Marner lite and had over a PPG for Michigan in his draft year

I'm very high on Owen Power and Luke Hughes and I want them on my team, but unfortunately, they don't fill one of the three positional needs that I described.

Also, our 3 left-handed LDs of significant value are Chabot, Sanderson and Brannstrom.

If we pick one of Hughes or Power, then we'll need to find a way to trade Brannstrom frown

A lot of people hate on him (including some Sharks fans when I’ve suggested drafting him).

I’m in love with him. The guy literally just needs a TAD more size and I agree, his upside is so strong he’s worth selecting at any pick that isn’t top 1-3.

Ottawa shouldn’t draft D. Chabot, Zub, Brann, JBD, Sanderson, Lassi, Mete, so on and so on.

          A winger/ Center is a necessary pick.

If you had to pick, I'd move up for one of Eklund or Guenther. They're what fit Ottawa's system the best.

That being said, ever thing of making a blockbuster with that pick and getting something you really need? ...

I just saw that post and I wouldn’t do that trade. I wouldn’t be opposed to a blockbuster if it had pieces like Logan Brown , Colin White, Ridley Greig, Nick Paul , Roby Jarventie , Lassi Thomson and our 2021 1st but I for sure wouldn’t do a blockbuster like the one in your post. If we can somehow get a Filip Forsberg , Timo Meier, Sam Reinhart for our 10th overall and pieces mentioned above, I would pursue that

according to the same guy who broke the Sanderson story during last years draft. Ottawa is very interested in Brandt Clarke

and based on the results of last years draft got to think Brandt Clarke is being taken

I'm really big on Lysell. He's got dynamic skill, a good motor and can really score. I think for where Ottawa is likely drafting, he's a really good fit. Eklund could be as well.

I think if it's a blockbuster like that you do it. Not many game changers like that available, when you find one you gotta jump on it and they don't come cheap. Sens have plenty of high end prospects to be able to afford to lose some. They can't all develop and become top 6 guys or top 4 guys, there's only 6 forward spots and 4 defence spots for guys like Tkachuk, Stuetzle, Norris, Batherson, Pinto, Chabot, Sanderson, Bernard-Docker, and Brannstrom, etc. Those are the types of players that get you high end calibre players in return. Not guys that project more as maybe middle 6 guys or bottom pair guys like Brown, Grieg, Jarventie, Thomson, etc. Unfortunately you gotta pay something good to get something good. And I don't think guys like Forsberg, Meier, or Reinhart really fit what Ottawa needs. If you can find that top line centre, it makes everything so much easier to build around

Why do ppl hate on Johnson when he’s a Marner lite and had over a PPG for Michigan in his draft year

I'm personally not hating on him, it's a matter of how he's been utilized and the development path he's taken.

His D-1 NHLe was 82GP: 8.056G - 12.66A - 20.716P and his D0 NHLe is 82GP: 9.714G - 19.426A - 29.140P. The path for any Canadian forward into the NCAA without going through the USHL takes a toll on both their numbers and their draft stock: Canadian Jr. A isn't yet a prolific enough of a set of leagues to suggest it's the best developmental environment for top prospects. The BCHL is Canada's top Jr.A league and it's still about 25% weaker than the USHL.

It doesn't help that Johnson is a genuine beanpole and doesn't engage in any physical play at all. Hockey men are a bit proterozoic in this regard and will make note of it.

          For reference, Marner's D-1 and D0 numbers:
          82GP: 5.669G - 18.423A - 24.092P
          82GP 19.582G - 32.883A - 52.465P

          RNH's D-1 and D0 numbers:
          82GP: 8.587G - 15.385A - 23.972P
          82GP: 11.399G - 26.706A - 38.105P

Marner was in a completely different stratosphere come his draft day than Johnson is today. In terms of size, style, position, and usage, Johnson is clearly RNH-lite, falling about 9 NHL points shy in terms of what RNH was projected to be when he went first overall. It's not a poor comparison, RNH is a multi-tool that can take faceoffs but is likely a very average #2C at best. More suited to the wing.

Brady might get traded, seems if he asks for a bridge deal and will not go long team OTT will trade him.

No he won’t, that’s the most ridiculous statement. A lot of guys might take bridge deals until the cap goes up. Doesn’t mean they want out

          Or you have:

          Stutzle - Eichel - Wilson
          Tkachuk - Norris - Dadonov
          Paul - Tierney - Brown
          XXX - XXX - Watson

          Chabot - XXX
          Sanderson - Zub
          Mete - Zaitsev

          Murray
          Gustavsson

& for the record, the XXX I filled in were: Goodrow, Glendenning, and Larsson who would all be incredible fits on the Sens IMO.

which lineup would you rather have, mine or yours? Personally I'm taking mine cause a 1-2 punch at centre of Eichel and Norris would be top 5 in the league. I don't think Norris-Pinto would even be a top 10

I don’t want to sign anymore older players and be stuck with bad contracts. Goodrow is Okay but no Larsson. Also how did u get Wilson? And Dadonov isn’t a top 6 player anymore

Sorry, I meant Colin White would be the top line RW with Eichel. They played a bit together in the USNTDP. Eichel is in his prime so that's not a bad contract. Larsson is only 28 and he's a good shoblocker and defensive defenceman to help open Chabot's offensive side up even more. They'd be a good pairing together

Larsson would just block one of Brannstrom, JBD , Thomson, Zub. Our defence is fine. It’s our forward that needs improvement.

I think Brannstrom doesn't last long in Ottawa. He's more suited on the left side and Chabot and Sanderson will play over him. I don't think Thomson sees higher than a bottom pair, I personally hate his game. And Bernard-Docker I had moving in the Eichel trade. I think Bernard-Docker is slightly more offensive where you'll need defensive minded guys too. A big body that can skate decently well like Larsson should but a nice compliment to Chabot on the top pair, then have the defensively minded Sanderson with Brannstrom on your second pair and it's 2 complete pairs to be competitive

Pretty sure Button ranked Lysell 27 over all so depending each teams evaluation of him he has a shot of being there at 10
Other that I really liked mctavish at the u18

Assuming Seattle gets bumped down I’d like to see Ottawa get aggressive and trade up to take Clarke or Guenther. I think those two are bar none the best fit. Players like Lysell, MacTavish and Johnson would be nice if they stay put. But fingers crossed Seattle would be open to accepting a couple extra picks to maybe still get their guy.

The one unfortunate thing about the run to end the season was that they bumped the draft slot down from 2 all the way to 10. Hopefully the winning really gels the team together and they find a way to get a gem in this draft regardless.
