Crazy Eichel Trade

Créé par: Freshfitted69

Description
Sakic - Forsberg

Crosby - Malkin
Matthews - Tavares

now say hello to Mackinnon - Eichel...

What do you think? Would you pay that price for Eichel... Would Buffalo want more?

Its not even all that hard to fit him under the cap on this team. Do you think you could get Makar for 8?

Agreed...I was going to say subtract those two and add a higher rated prospect and this would be very, very interesting.

Agree with this. I think switch Bowers with Newhook and its pretty good. Kaut is German and JJP is with Buffalo, they may like that. It has the 4 first rounder pieces thats been rumored to be the asking price. Would create a ridiculous team

does it? They underpaid the key UFAs not he Avs, and They had to put Francouz on LTIR, and there is no indication that he is hurt all next season either

I mean, you could probably make it work. Bridge Makar, take less of a return for Compher and don't retain...I'm not advocating for it to happen, I'm just saying it's a good valuation of a potential Eichel deal.

the value would be a steal in a. trade, but in reality an Eichel deal means you are choosing him over keeping landeskog. They cant afford both with Mackinnons contract going forward

And I would never want to see the avs sacrifice their captain for a Eichel,

For sure. I agree 100%. If only there was a way to make EJ magically disappear...Avs would be absolutely terrifying...

terrifying for 1 maybe 2 years...long term outlook in this roster build, ignoring the fact that guys were underpaid....avs would have 30m in cap space with the 9 guys signed during the offseason MacKinnon needs a new contract. Mackinnon basically eats half of that up with his his new deal, so how avs have 14-16m to sign 12 guys. Good luck

That is sacraficing all your future ability to contend on a very small window. Not worth it

Coga, you're most likely right... I don't think this is a wise deal, but it's fun to dream.

However, I don't think 7 mill for Landeskog is much of an underpayment, and Makar might be okay with a team-friendly 8 mill, cuz some avs players have taken slightly team friendly deals in the past and I'm sure he'd like to build a winner in Denver.

EJ and Kadri both come off the books before MacKinnon needs to sign a new deal.

Trading for Eichel WOULD decimate the Avs but the point of this Armchair GM is to show that with a little creativity you COULD keep Landy, Mack, Makar, Rants and ADD EICHEL.... you'd just have to fill out the rest of your roster with bargain bin players.... (But you know what, this strategy has kind of worked in Toronto... they've added lots of bargain contracts like Simmonds to fill out their very top heavy roster, so it can be done)

And with the cap staying flat this summer, i think it's gonna be a pretty good bet there will be some good bargain bin players out there

Landy will get closer to 8, Makar will get closer to 9 even 9+ and Grubauer will get 6m (look at Binnington and Markstron recent 6x6 deals). Jost will get 2m-2.5m x 2 like Nuke
That is 3m of underpaying plus throwing Frankie on LTIR which he is not out next year. That is 5m to apply to the cap

It doesnt Work in reality

Yeah, you're right. But there are some things you haven't taken into account. Some of those deals were signed pre-covid, when it was assumed that the cap would still be going up. Just because mediocre or even star players got lucrative deals in previous years, it doesn't necessarily mean they will be getting the same type of money this time around. The market has changed.

Also, I'd say the hype train was bigger on Binnington and Markstrom than Grubauer, who has been injury prone.

If Frankie is going to be healthy, you don't have to sign Johansson to that one-way nhl deal.

And sometimes, if you can't fit a guy under the cap, like say Jost for example, you have to trade him away. Think like the Kapanen deal... In reality, you're right.... this is too much to sacrifice just to get another star centre on the team, but I wouldn't say it CANT be done. After all, only a Sith deals in absolutes smile

What are you talking about. There is no hype train, that is just a made up thing by you to justify underpaying what the market has set. Binnington and Markstrom signed their contracts Post Covid in the flat cap era, Gallagher signed his contract post covid and its 6.5m aav....Landy isnt 500k more than Gallagher, there is a clear difference bw the players....Landy has almost been a point per game player the last 3 season .Gallagher not even close to that sort of production or as good defensively as Landy

I think you might have not taking into account the post covid contracts and low balled the avs values. I would love to see them sign those but it aint happening, have to be realistic here. Stars still get paid

Ok, I guess we'll see. They'll be signing these guys in the off-season so I guess we'll see how far I'm off by.

I like you Coga, you're a voice of reason on here, which is great, but come on, there most certainly was a hype train going on with Binnington (and to a lesser degree Markstrom). He was young, a cup winner, and some people thought he was the second coming of Jesus. And we all know that goalies can be streaky and signing goalies to big contracts is VERY risky. Personally, I think that 6x6 kinda looks a little bit rich now. I doubt Grubauer gets much more than 5, especially since Sakic is supposed to be a tough negotiator and a little stingey.

Landy might be a fair bit better than Gallagher points-wise, but how much of that do you attribute to playing with MacKinnon and Rantanen? I would argue they provide similar value to their teams. Every TV broadcast goes on and on about how Gallagher's the heart and soul of the team.

Makar is the tricky one... I know there's some guys getting paid 9+.... and Makar's pts/gm numbers are ridiculous.... but 8m would put him in the same tax bracket as Chabot who recently signed.... and would be paying him more than Hedman, (Most commonly agreed upon as being the top Defenseman in the league).... plus he would get max term and help his team afford to be a contender for years to come... I wouldn't be surprised if he signs for something under 9.

Anyways, you're probably right I'm undervaluing them a little bit, but I'd guess 7.5m tops for Landy... I don't think Jost will come anywhere close to 2 or 2.5... he's scored 5 goals this year. 1.5m would be generous IMO
