Quoting: tryger
I know I am a broken record, but this is the Kings positional depth:
- Center depth (incl. prospects): Kopitar - Byfield - Turcotte - Vilardi - JAD - Kupari - Lizotte - Andersson - Thomas - Madden - Eyssimont. (STRONG: well set for 5+ years)
-Wing depth (incl. prospects): Brown - Iafallo - Kempe - Kaliyev - ****emo - Moore - Lemieux - Athanasiou - Grundstrom - Wagner - Luff - Chromiak -Simontaival (ACCEPTABLE: can move some centers to wing, but still lacking top-6 scoring wingers outside of Kaliyev)
- LD depth (incl. prospects): Bjornfot - Andersen - Maata - Clague - Nousiaianen (WEAK: need to improve this pool with a bonafide top-line LD)
- RD depth (incl. prospects): Doughty - Roy - Walker - Strand - Faber - Grans - Spence - Durzi (STRONG: well set for 5+ years)
- Goalie depth: Petersen, Quick, Parik, Villalta (ACCEPTABLE: in good condition for at least 1 more year, need to improve this pool with one blue-chip goalie prospect)
I think the Kings areas of weakness show they need a top-line defenseman and top-line winger more than a center. Giving up picks that could potentially be their future top-line defenseman to strengthen a position they are already set at is bad asset management.

. The bigger issue is if the Kings do acquire Eichel, does he make you significantly better in the short term and long term? I think he does, especially in the short term if your top three centers are Eichel, Vilardi, and Kopitar for the next three years with Byfield on the rise; that gives you tremendous flexibility to move a center while still upgrading the wing or defense by moving a guy like Vilardi, Thomas, or Madden.
The kings do it because they Eichel, Byfield, and Kopitar would give them probably the best center trio in the league. The major issue with them though is paying three players ten million for the next three years
The kings could also get him a shade cheaper than a team like the Rangers because they know they are probably the preferred destination
