Not really, the sum of the parts are more valuable than the whole, Laine + Korpisalo is likely closer to fair value IF Jack was not hurt and needing potentially career altering SURGERY!

eichel even at like 75% would still be a 60-point player and would still be a better return than getting laine who chooses whenever he's good or unplayable, korpisalo who is the worse of the two CBJ goalies, and the first round pick who buffalo is probably gonna destroy in five years anyway

So then what you are saying is that Laine for Eichel 1 for 1 would be closer to fair value given the potential for Eichel not returning to form. Both are 60 point guys if Eichel only returns to 75% of the player he was. So maybe to make up for the huge risk Columbus throws in a couple of conditional picks. If Eichel hits 100 points next year then Columbus sends a 2022 1st and a 2023 2nd.

Um. If that's a legit concern, then the answer isn't to lowball Buffalo; it's to look elsewhere. Because they're not going to accept that excuse with regard to a franchise player. (We sure as hell wouldn't.)

Why wouldn't it be a legit concern? Eichel wants an experimental high risk surgery without very much data to rely on to make an informed decision. There is no guarantee that it will work let alone allow him to play at the elite level he has over his career. IMO the best option for all parties including Eichel is for him to have whatever surgery him and the team agree on in the offseason. Then hope he can return to form next season, if he does great either keep him or trade him for the proper return after 10-20 games. However like I said above right now there is too much risk for a team to pay fair value.
