This is what I have been saying all day! Sabres fans want to get the world back for him but he has not played a single game since getting a herniated disc in his neck and he has said the Sabres wouldn't allow him to have surgery to repair it so why should any GM in the league give up more than a 1st + roster player + prospect? He may never get back on the ice and if he does he may not even be the same caliber player or could suffer a career ending injury within games of returning. The risk is too high to give up much more.
Eichel’s injury is not career ending at all. But the problem is there is a major disagreement between the treatment Eichel wants which doesn’t have a lot of evidence to backing up and what the Sabres wanted him to do. But I will say the question with Eichel is not if he will be healthy, it’s how long will he be healthy for? He could end up with a shorter career and shorter peak.
Having said that, Number one centers rarely come available and he will still get a big return because every GM in the league views him as an all world talent, and with no NMC or NTC. The problem is, will he get the right the return? With an inexperienced GM like Kevyn Adams, it’s hard to trust him to make such a move.
Also, another thing to consider is the fact every GM also views Eichel as a guy like Ryan O’Reilly,....get him out of Buffalo and he could pay off big for you.
Personally though, I don’t want him traded to a eastern team and more so a division rival. And I think NY has a great prospect pool to begin with and are headin in the right direction, they don’t need Eichel and they don’t need to blow it up to get him
