Hischier is 22, signed long term to a good deal, is captain, and is already a #1 Center. The Sabres get the 2 best prospects in the deal as well

Yeah. He wears the letter C. But until his team accomplishes anything, I'm not sure that's an accomplishment for him. He plays 18 minutes a night now, but he scored more as a rookie playing 16. Now he's just hurt and on a 43 point pace. Not sure that makes his contract great.

But maybe Hischier for Reinhart is pretty fair. Thompson for Wood could go either way. So the question is whether you want to trade Eichel for that other stuff. Maybe if they win the lottery?

I think you might have misheard me because you're underrating Sam Reinhart. Kid is 25 with five 20 goal seasons and three 50 point seasons. If Hischier is going to match those achievements, he'll need a time machine.

True. Of course. But Eichel has captained the Sabres with Reinhart as an Alternate for a little while. Eichel has been a decent #1C when healthy, and when he's out, Reinhart is a decent top-six C. Not that NJ needs more centers.

Hischier is out pacing Reinhart through his first 230 games by like 30+ points

The Sabres have done less under Eichel than the Devils under Hischier, unless you count #1 overall picks

It's not really about what is coming in, it's about what's going out. You're trading 2 first-line players (one being a top 7 C in the league) and a decent bottom 6 player with size.

Hischier may be good, but Eichel is miles better than him right now.

Mercer does have potential, but it's unlikely he becomes half of what Reinhart is. Clarke may be promising right now, but he's still a question mark.
