exactly but he has 1 year left and Trouba has 5 years at 8mill.... ZIBANEJAD needs a new deal and so does Fox. opening up 8million is huge for them. Risto is just a place holder till Nils is 100% ready for the NHL

We're not using a 1st AND downgrading players just to make cap space, yeah hes expensive but our right side isn't exactly full of NHL talent, so for the time being we're sticking with him, hell maybe he picks his trade value up for when we need it

using a 1st? you are trading him with a prospect and a 3rd? for Risto who is arguably better than him and making 8mill in cap space next year when you need cap space for 2 great players... arguably your 2 best players. When Risto deal exspires Nils will be on the team on an ELC. what do you think itll cost to dump Trouba and how do you make 8-10millon for Fox and 8-10 mill for ZIBANEJAD... need at least 16m to sign both those guys

Schneider is the "1st", seeing as he just got drafted im equating his value to a 1st, also our cap space comes from losing strome and georgiev and millions in buyout money coming off the books

okay so imagine trading Schneider for Fox or ZIBANEJAD..then. long story short you are using him to create cap space for both of them by enticing a team to take Troubas terrible contract. need to look down the road bc offersheets / FA happen and you are FACKED if a team offers too much for Zabs and offersheets Fox

Just looking to start discussion, but am I the only one who does NOT want the Capitals to trade for Eichel? I really don't think it's worth trading our future stars away. Especially because, y'know, impending doom when Ovechkin and Backstrom retire, Oshie around the same time if he's still here, aging Carlson. Eichel would be here for four years with that core and they could do immediate damage, for sure. But once those guys retire, Eichel would be left alone (or only with Mantha) since we would have traded a few of our top prospects.

I would want him for the guys you named. Eichel helps us win w the current core and after that they can suck and build a team the old fashion way w lottery picks. Look at the penguins vs caps. Penguins picked 5 1 2 1 2. Capitals I think had 2 picks inside the top 5 in those years. Resulted in 3 cups vs 1. Being awful and lucky > middle of the road
