I think the Eichel trade is fairly likely given how desperate the Flames likely are to A) have a competitive roster and B) have a superstar comparable to McDavid. The Sabres do it because I think trading him to an Eastern conference team would be a nightmare for many many years. Still, a top 6 centre, some prospects and a bunch of picks is a decent haul. Eichel's injury and recent press conference brings his value down to where the Flames can match it. Gaudreau for Voracek is a pure hockey trade that gives both players a change of scenery and gets them away from the ire of irate hockey fans. Plus Voracek is more of a Sutter kind of guy. Culture needs to change so that means Gio is gone, plus cap relief. Florida improves their defence and leadership group. Detroit picks up a middle 6 centre that will help their group along and get off a backup goaltender who's been up and down and doesn't fit the timeline of the team. Calgary gets more cap relief and fills a hole. Last big move is getting Alec Martinez off of FA. Market should be low, Vegas has no money, and the Sutter connection is there. I never try to be super precise in the contract department so hopefully the Flames could get some of the depth guys at a little bit more of a bargain so they can have a farm team.
