The caps aren’t trading kuzy to be less skilled and experienced.

Is Lehkonen added for salary purposes because the Devils don't really need him

So, last week a Habs fan offers Kotkaniemi and a 1st for Kuznetsov: https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/2379255

Today a Caps fan posts the same thing. Habs fans shoot it down, and one posts the same trade, plus Drouin for Lapierre.

I'm not sure who says no to Hawsie's offer, but Drouin does not get you Lapierre in 2021.

TBH I think both teams decline, but it would be much easier for Washington than Montreal. Montreal declines because we are further from a cup than adding Kuzy, so giving up a good young center plus a 1st doesn't make a lot of sense. Washington declines because lets face it it is just a bad offer for them.

Kotkaniemi's got some potential, and a mid-first is something. You should see some of the other Kuznetsov trades on this page. smile

eta: I hope the Caps keep their team mostly together, but I also didn't think they'd trade Vrana, and that happened. The new coach has benched Kuznetsov almost as much as Vrana now. What else would MTL need, to compete? (not saying WSH delivers all of it, but I don't think Kuznetsov for Kotkaniemi and a 1st is that unrealistic.

How about a top pairing PM LHD a top 4 RHD to push Weber down the lineup. At least maybe more. I wouldn't mind also getting a scoring LW and another good backup since we are likely losing Allen to the ED. Plus Kuznetsov, that would likely push us to contender status and make moving some younger assets like KK more palatable.

I got playmaking left hand shot defenseman. Lost me at TL.

Riley? Orlov? Dunn? Chychrun? Weegar? What would any of them cost?

Dunn a 1st or 2 2nds, Chychrun is like untouchable, Weegar not interested in, Reilly most likely wouldn't come to Montreal as he was drafted a Leaf. Orlov not a top pairing guy IMO.

TL was a typo, I fixed it lol. I also added a bit more that IMO would push us to contender status. But as you can see we are like 4-5 good pieces short. I forgot to add a good GM and Head Coach.

Sounds like the Habs have the pieces for Kuznetsov and Dunn. Wonder if WSH could throw in Jensen for a decent RHD prospect or a very good forward prospect. Then MTL's GM has solved all their roster problems and all they need is a coach.

I think Orlov is a top pairing D, but I hope the Caps find a way to keep him, given how well he's playing the last couple months.
