Description
Wanted to see what this would look like from the other side.

Not sure what the top line will get paid, but get them on a 4+ year deal each so they’ll be resigned once Suter and Parise are off the books.

I think this would be a good return for dumba this close to the expansion draft.

Yup. All I know is they can’t lose him for nothing! And I don’t think they’ll want to give up picks or a player for Seattle to not take him.

He’s not getting exposed. The go 4-4-1 and expose Soucy or Greenway. Dumba fits OTT right now and his contract is good for their timeline but if Norris or Pinto isn’t part of the return, then a 2022 1st needs to be part of the deal.

Yeah it’s a crappy spot but they just waited too long. I hope they go on a run and he plays great so he can pump up his value.

Parise, Zucc, Fiala, Eriksson Ek
Suter, Brodin, Spurgeon, Dumba
Like that?

Yes, but Parise is either going to be bought out/mutual termination. He’s waive in that case and we protect Foligno with the last spot.

MIN actually has a very easy expansion conundrum unless they really, really, really like one of Soucy/Greenway/Sturm.

Dumba would be nice to have, but I can't imagine Ottawa moving any of those pieces. Josh Norris is WAY more valuable than Dumba imo, I don't think you move Pinto at least not for Dumba, and Ottawa shouldn't be trading a 1st a year in advance EVER again. I think Wild fans like the fit more than Sens fans.

Yes, you missed my post in the OTT side that says I doubt OTT wants to give up what MIN wants.

I'm curious why the long-term projection says Kaprizov is a RFA at the end of 4 years, because he should be a UFA then. Either way, even if he's somehow a RFA for whatever reason, he could refuse to sign and take the 1 year offer tendered and be gone the next year. Personally I hope Guerin gets him signed for 8 so he's here through his prime.

I'm legit curious if Parise agreeing to just allow his contract to be terminated is the same as him retiring for purpose of cap recapture. I could see him agreeing to that with how he's being used to go sign under Lou for a cheap 1 year deal to get another shot.

That’s my current understanding and it’s best case for both parties, assuming the recapture is about 5 mil. I want Parise to have the opportunity to continue playing if he can find it. It’s just not with the Wild.

Here's what the CBA says:

"For any period during which the Player under a Long-Term Contract is no longer playing in the League during the term of that Long-Term Contract by reason of retirement, "defection" from the NHL or otherwise (but not death) (such that he is not playing and is not receiving Salary pursuant to that Long-Term Contract), an amount attributable to that Player shall nonetheless continue to be included in his Club's Averaged Club Salary as described below."

To me, that sounds like it says if Parise continues playing, we don't have the recapture penalty because he doesn't meet both the conditions of not receiving salary from this contract and not playing.

If we look at the Mike Richards contract situation, he had his contract terminated in 2015. The Kings were charged a $1.32 million recapture penalty for each of the next 5 years. Richards signed on with Washington in January 2016 so he did play, but not immediately after the contract termination so the Kings had already been paying recapture penalties. I don't know if that had an effect on the situation or if in practice, the rule means that the player must be playing under the same contract to avoid the recapture penalty. It's an odd wording.
