Description
I’m not 100% sure of Texier’s value but the basis of the CBJ trade is their latest 1st rounder and one of their young roster players. Saw Oilers one posted earlier. Let me know what you think

Oilers pass, I like Kuemper but only one year on his contract isn't worth near that much.

It’s effectively moving back about 8 spots in the draft for a better goaltender. I don’t know much about Samorukov. Would your mind change if it was Benson instead?

My 2c, would do Marody or Laggeson and consider Benson or Jones. Not interested in moving the first, we have almost no picks this year.

That’s not gonna be enough. Again, you’re moving back a Max of 10 draft spots

I agree with @TheGreatBigMac . Honestly, I don’t like it either. Giving our first for one year of Kuemper, is not smart really. I know we are getting a second, but I rather make sure I can secure a chance at drafting Sebastian Cossa instead of missing him. This is a weak draft, after the first round there will be nothing to brag about. Even after the top 15 if you don’t get Cossa.

I'm not sure Schmaltz is worse than Kuzy tbh.

I’d be willing to give up that first, but maybe not Tex for Schmaltz.

This. Tex is one of the young centers we'd want to shield by acquiring someone like Schmaltz. It's a bit counterproductive.

In my opinion Keumper is a pretty decent upgrade over Koskinen... I don’t understand the rationale behind a possible cup contender holding onto its first round pick in what you said yourself is a very weak draft. And they’re trading pick ~27 for pick ~36, so not even downgrading that much. If Cossa is as good as you say then he’s likely not in the board for them to pick anyway

That’s revisionist history lol. Kuzy is a better center than Schmaltz.

Who would be someone that’s available then?

Cossa is very good, and i believe he may be on the board. If he’s off the board by our pick, then I may be open to trade it. Not right now though, as I want to have a chance to get him. If we downgrade, we don’t have a chance. Kuemper is good, but if we can land Cossa I would rather do that, especially if we only get one year of Kuemper.

I would move foudy or bemstrom if you want a younger player. But with foudy there may need to be a pick coming back like a 3rd.

Cheaper, no baggage, been better for 2 years now on a way less loaded team playing a way more defensive style. Also Schmaltz knows how to play D.

This move would have made a lot of sense last year. Now Smith is playing well, he likely gets another year. Probably not the best to go with two older goalies. I would be open to this direction but probably pursue younger options first. Also, we want to be a contender for a while not one and done. You need picks to hit to achieve that. I personally would try to hang on to firsts until the tail end of a team's contention window. Moving back at the start of the draft even a few spots can be huge. I don't know the draft this year well enough maybe it's fine.

Smith is also 39 years old. Cant rely on him to be an everyday starter at that age, regardless of how he’s played this year. Keumper would probably be open to extending in EDM too so it could be a longer term move as well. Young talented goalies will cost more than this package for sure. Trading your first to upgrade a position of relative weakness is a move that teams make to move from playoff team to big-time contender
