Terrible for Ottawa. Dadonov is fine. He'll bounce back next year, and Ottawa would be stuck with dog**** James Neal

So the 1st round pick you seemingly completely ignored will help offset that value disparity and will help a young team in their rebuilding efforts?

🙄

Meanwhile cap isn't precious for Ottawa rn

3 Dadonov Realities

- he was likely driving his Fla line possession wise

- they likely were very much driving the scoring

- he and Neal are similar in age and pts/game

So I think that trade ultimately ok but interesting

Holtby Smith likely provides .900

And yes Mike from Canmore has been good this year

But likely one of the more anomalous seasons ever

Holtby is bad but still better than koskinen. If the Canucks really want an overpaid backup, they will just keep the one they have. No reason to make the team worse

It costs a 1st at least just to move Neal. He's not a useful player and his contract is horrendous. Ottawa has no incentive to sell Dadonov at a loss. He's going to bounce back next season, and Ottawa would be losing out on a valuable player next year for no reason.

Ottawa isn't nearly as far away from the playoffs as people think, and at this point Ottawa is better served building the best team on ice they can, and I don't think a later 1st is worth adding a dead weight player for two years. I think there are teams that are at an earlier stage in the rebuild that would benefit more from something like that.

The Sens aren't gonna win a cup with Zaitsev at 4.5M, White at 4.75M and Murray at 6.25M not to mention the 3.6M for the Bobby Ryan buyout. Maybe you can win with one of those contracts but not all 4.

I'd rather tank 2 more years and get some nice ELC contracts and then be real cup contenders than be a borderline playoff team for the foreseeable future.

Ottawa is still a #1C (if Stutzle stays LW) or a top line winger (if Stutzle shifts to centre) and a top goalie away from contending.

Tanking for two more years is absolutely not in the plans for Ottawa. They're not going to be bad enough to truly suck next year, and even if they aren't a playoff team, they're still going to keep trending in that direction. If ownership was willing to eat dead money in big deals like this they would have done those deals in the last few years.

I agree that Zaitsev needs to go, but that's probably a conversation for next year. White I think will be moved this offseason, and Murray will be given another year at the least.
