Detroit tells you where to go. Probably 50/50 at best you get a player better than Bertuzzi at 8th overall. Certainly not worth taking on Roussel
Colorado says no too

As a Wings fan, the value is more than fine. Roussel doesn’t make too much cash and it’s one year. There’s still a tier of prospect I find intriguing as a couple of these guys will be there, Power, Clarke, Hughes, Edvinsson, Beniers, Johnson, Guenther, Lysell, Eklund, and Wallstedt. There’s a risk that Bertuzzi doesn’t come back 100% as it’s a back injury.

The new hotness always seems great but in general Bertuzzi is a fair bit better than a typical 8th overall and this is supposed to be a down year

I can't find more recent than that but that has all 8th overalls from 2013 and earlier

From 2000-2013 is 14. Couturier is the best. There are only a few more on bertuzzis level or better.

One year of team/cost control & back injury worry me and lower his value. I don’t like using the hypothetical of who was selected in this spot as each team’s boards are different. A couple recent Detroit examples, Seider being ranked in the teens by McKenzie and we select 6th. If Larkin wasn’t on the board in 2014 at 15th then we had Pastrnak next which went 25th. Bertuzzi was also ranked in the 100s and we selected him 58th and watching Reddit & HFB is comical to go back to see people complain about the pick. There was also a rumor that we had Pettersson as 1 OVR.

Each year is different too, look at 2015 Werenski and Meier/Rantanen next. 2016 A Nylander (ehhh) but Sergachev. 2017 Rags & Detroit reached (Tyler Wright’s size year) but Vilardi & Necas were higher ranked.

I’m partially curious about it because Detroit’s invested heavily in wingers recently Zadina, Raymond, and Berggren. I also believe they’re much easier to replace than a top 6 center or defensemen. So it’s a calculated move to be able to potentially acquire a more premiere position while back filling that position with our available cap.

Don't love the Detroit trade but I could see yzerman making the deal if he thinks Bertuzzi might not heal from his back injury of if he really likes a guy in that range. Seems like fair value.
