I can't figure out where I land on Gorton.
For one, you can't give him much credit for picking up Panarin, Fox, Kaapo, and Laf, who were the results of either lottery luck or players very obviously preferring New York. He massively overpayed Trouba, signed Jack Johnson, and really didn't get much in return for McDonagh and JT Miller (though I suppose Lundvist looks pretty great, you should still have probably more to show on that trade).
On the other hand- Gorton's three months stretch as the Bruins GM in 06 might be the all time best stretch for a GM. He drafted Marchand, Kessel, and Lucic in the same draft, traded Raycroft for Rask, and then also signed Chara and Savard as free agents. Basically built the team that would go on to win the cup in three months.
So is he good or does he suck? Who knows. Kings should probably stick with Blake though, he seems to be doing an okay job (though it's not like he hasn't made some very obvious blunders of his own)
