That's not remotely the same thing, and again, is a result of the actions Wilson took prior.

i agree but that seems to be ignored... most people think Panarin was instantly broken after the slam and thats not close to the facts

It just baffles me that people are seriously upset over this. I get it’s Tom Wilson so he’ll automatically get attacked, but come on. Like you said above, Wilson was off of buch and tangled up with strome when panarin comes in, so F off with the argument that he was protecting buch. Wilson also let up heavily once he saw the position panarin was in.

im not. people overreact to stuff like this all the time... amp that up bc its Tom Wilson and it happned to Panarin and this becomes the 2nd worse thing to happen to New york ever

I suppose "came to the defense" wasn't quite the right phrase. But you damn well know what I meant.

He didnt come to defend anyone...no one at that point was in any danger. it was just a normal scrum and Buch was 100% perfectly fine. your statement lacks any type of accuracy

I don’t disagree with you on panarin. Panarin went too far as well and it was stupid on his part. But we are talking about Wilson, which I do disagree with you on. He took it way too far. Panarin was already on the ground and Wilson continued to beat him into a pulp. Even during the “bare knuckle fighting” that happens in this league, players know to STOP when the other player is lying on the ground. You don’t put him on the ground and continue to beat him. This is hockey, not street fighting. I’m not calling for the guy to be suspended or anything because that’s up to the DOPS’s discretion. However, they need to be waay more consistent and this is something that definitely deserves more than a $5000 fine based on precedence (meaning league wide precedence not Tom Wilson history). Giving him a fine that’s like $20 to him is not going to stop him. I completely disagree with you that this wasn’t vicious. Even enforcers back in the day didn’t take it this far unless their intent was to injure the player. If we got that aspect out of the game, then why does Tom Wilson get a $5000 pass for doing it. It’s as if it’s a mere fee at this point. It’s simole, if a players’ helmet is off, and he’s on the ice, no player in the league will continue to beat him into a pulp other than Tom Wilson. I didn’t think he would do it either but I’m starting to think he is a dirty player (and I don’t think anyone in the league is a dirty player other than Marchand...cause of the licking, now that’s nasty lol)

I also think this is the first time I’ve disagreed with you but it’s so specific let’s just say we’ve never disagreed 😂. I agree that panarin did put himself in a super vulnerable spot and was roughing himself, but Wilson was “so far away from the line it was a dot” - Joey tribbiani

I see both sides. I watched it frame by frame, looked like Wilson was up and tangled with strome when panarin jumped on him. I didn’t even think Wilson hit panarin once he went down, looked like he saw his helmet was off, took him down and left him instead of beating the crap out of him on the feet.

i saw the exact same thing... Threw a punch before he notice Panarin was in a bad spot. imo he could have punched him several times and didnt. "continue to beat him to a pulp" is the def not what happened considering Panarin was punching him while standing seconds later.... in the back of the head.. irony

We can’t forget about it. What happened was vicious and had no place in today’s game. Period. If we forget about it, it will happen again. Good move by the rangers making the statement as the most valuable team in the league and good on them for getting rid of guys who don’t think the same as the organization. Hockey isn’t just a game, it’s a role model group for many. Good on the rangers, shame on Tom Wilson. Tom Wilson has been punished unjustly before imo because of his past record, but they really missed on this one.

I know he was punished unjustly.

Oh stop it. Panarin was coming to the defense of a defenseless Buch. Good grief already.

Panarin jumped on his back - not Wilson's fault that Panarin is a little guy. In all seriousness - maybe this offseason he will lift more?

Holy f*ck, leave this thread alone. I'm tired of having like 10+ notifications every time I go on CF.
