I don’t disagree with you on panarin. Panarin went too far as well and it was stupid on his part. But we are talking about Wilson, which I do disagree with you on. He took it way too far. Panarin was already on the ground and Wilson continued to beat him into a pulp. Even during the “bare knuckle fighting” that happens in this league, players know to STOP when the other player is lying on the ground. You don’t put him on the ground and continue to beat him. This is hockey, not street fighting. I’m not calling for the guy to be suspended or anything because that’s up to the DOPS’s discretion. However, they need to be waay more consistent and this is something that definitely deserves more than a $5000 fine based on precedence (meaning league wide precedence not Tom Wilson history). Giving him a fine that’s like $20 to him is not going to stop him. I completely disagree with you that this wasn’t vicious. Even enforcers back in the day didn’t take it this far unless their intent was to injure the player. If we got that aspect out of the game, then why does Tom Wilson get a $5000 pass for doing it. It’s as if it’s a mere fee at this point. It’s simole, if a players’ helmet is off, and he’s on the ice, no player in the league will continue to beat him into a pulp other than Tom Wilson. I didn’t think he would do it either but I’m starting to think he is a dirty player (and I don’t think anyone in the league is a dirty player other than Marchand...cause of the licking, now that’s nasty lol)
I also think this is the first time I’ve disagreed with you but it’s so specific let’s just say we’ve never disagreed 😂. I agree that panarin did put himself in a super vulnerable spot and was roughing himself, but Wilson was “so far away from the line it was a dot” - Joey tribbiani
I see both sides. I watched it frame by frame, looked like Wilson was up and tangled with strome when panarin jumped on him. I didn’t even think Wilson hit panarin once he went down, looked like he saw his helmet was off, took him down and left him instead of beating the crap out of him on the feet.
