Description
Think it is a forgone conclusion that Edmonton goes UFA shopping for a LW next season. Or two if you count resigning nuge.

So.... I’m Curious - What’s the best UFA LW for McDavid next season? Or is it nuge, and the new UFA LW plays w Dri and yamo?

The oil are only one piece away from a scary top 6. Only a handful of teams could ice a better top 6 once they find there second LW.

Here’s IMO the most reasonable/best fit UFA’s for this summer. All with pros and cons.

What say you? Comment away.

Don’t roast me too hard on the contracts lengths or AAV - just guesses done quickly - more interested on what folks think is the best fit, or what you think will actually happen...

hyman's a great option. that said, i really hope the leafs bring him back.
schwartz is good, tatar is fine, saad could do well on a 2nd line with drai & yam...

Agree there, Oilers have the money to give OVI

And just saying Hyman won't be avaliable

As far as the whole package with age and size I would take Hyman at around 5.5 - 6 mil, TO may try to make room for him at that but can't pay him much more and I don't think he fetches any more than 6 with a flat cap but someone like Colorado could overpay. Others could overpay too but I do not believe he sacrifices winning in the next few years over a few dollars, in the same breath won't take too heavy of a home town discount in this contract to stay in TO either.

Ya - agree. But think we all know that ovie isn’t happening so left him off the list. Same w landy on the avs, and hall (as just don’t see it happening).

Tried to keep it semi-realistic

But Ovie + mcdavid = cup no doubt wink

The Oilers have one piece that makes them a scary top 6, not one piece away, I have less than 8 minutes played in the WHL and I could put up 20 on McDavid's line. All that being said, Zach Hyman would be an absolutely unreal fit with McDavid. I think they shockingly let RNH go to open market and bring in a true winger, it will look like Toronto with two elite pairs on the top two lines.

Hyman - McDavid - Puljujarvi/Holloway
Holloway/Puljuajarvi - Draisaitl - Yamamoto

Its a low second, and no way does PHI retain. A 2nd for JVR straight up, hes got size, huge body on pp, and almost a guaranteed 25 goals/45-55pts in only 16 minutes of icetime in PHI. No injury history and an excellent bet to perform throughout remainder of contract. Or throw in small but unneeded contract

Lots of good conventional skillset fits available

But I'd go for Tatar (I mean he's the best player too)

With McDavid becoming an elite goal scorer too I feel the key is O zone time, sustained pressure and opportunities and virtually noone does that more

Than T T

100th percentile in shot assists as well 😎

I like Connor Brown in OTT. Will probably be down in their depth chart with all the young guys coming up. Had success together in Erie. Could be a nice trade option.

Hyman would be high on my list but another thought is why not look for a second line centre keep nuge on the 2nd line lw slot this would allow Leon and mcdavid together. Don’t need to break the bank on a term type of ufa either Mcloed has looked solid and could be an option for 2c given some time to develop up from 3c role and Holloway is a killer on the dot so a short term 2c might be the best way to approach this.

One of Zach Hyman, Brandon Saad, Tomas Tatar, of Blake Coleman I would be happy with. I prefer Saad out of all of them, I have been saying that he would be the perfect left winger for McDavid for a while. He’s good, but I don’t see him leaving Colorado.

It would be a nightmare defensively. He needs a 2-way left winger in my opinion.

They won't have the cap space after re-signing makar and grubauer
