AVS FANS I HAVE A QUESTION

Description
You’re all gonna laugh at me even asking this but....

How much is a team overpaying Landeskog to leave Colorado?

Being a Vancouver fan, and having the same love for Swedes that the organization has always had, I think Landeskog would be absolutely deadly with Pettersson.

So my question is simple. How much?

Does he think about it if he’s offered $8.5 x 6?

I don’t think it’s about money for Landeskog. He had been rebuilding with the Avs for years, been their captain forever, and the team is finally getting close to chasing championships. Why leave that?

That’s what I was thinking, but then I look at the Colorado lineup. Makar unless he signs a bridge, will be getting paid this year. Burakovsky is up next season, and MacKinnon the year after that. There is lots of money coming off the books in coming years, so I don’t think they’ll have a cap issue, but with the contracts they’ll have to resign... I feel that he (Landy) would consider a little less money for term, even if it meant going elsewhere.
I don’t see it happening, but I had to ask lol

I imagine that the market dictates Landeskogs value at least on par with Rantanen. Rantanen is the better player probably, but his contract eats up mostly rfa years, not ufa years. On top of that, Landeskog has value as the captain and also will likely be looking to make up for a cheap previous deal. However, he may elect to go longer term to offset the cost.

I think the Aves give him an 8x$8.5M deal which imo is fair for both sides

Based on this, I think he may be tempted to leave if he is offered either 6 or 7 years at anything north of $10M (probably mostly in signing bonus) as this would have him hitting UFA again at 34/35 looking at possibly another 3-4 year contract.

This all changes if the Aves offer him a below market value contract. If they only offer something like 6 x $7.5M then he may be tempted with a 7x$8M deal or better tbh..

He has 2 small kids and raising his family in Colorado, I dont think he is leaving to chase money, plus whenever the Avs media would ask Sakic or Landy about it, they were giving off the vibes its nothing to worry about and not concerned at all about getting a deal that both sidse want done to make Landeskog a career Av

Fans and avs media assume that means they have a frame work already figured out and waiting for the cap to formally be confirmed next year especially when it pertains to escrow before they finalize anything

Stats aren't everything...but he seems to be 3rd best forward on the Avs. He's 23rd in league scoring...currently which kinda puts him at about 8.5m
He's been remarkably consistent in the past four years. Question is what 29 year old (in November) get for term.

Few teams could offer more $$$ than Colorado, well maybe crappy teams. Don't know why the Canucks would even be in consideration with their upcoming cap issues.

I wouldn’t be shocked if he got $8M for 5 from the Avs, I’d be disappointed a bit but not surprised. He isn’t walking though unless someone gives him $9+ and there is the potential for some silly money out there with an expansion team out there.

I'd guess Landy is looking at $7.5m for 7 or 8 to go his whole career as an Av. Not sure he'd even be interested in going elsewhere, but if so it would need to be a BIG overpay, at least 9+ to make him think about it.

There are lots of moving parts this offseason with several key players needing new deals. Seattle draft is coming up and they would prefer to lose one of their low to mid-tier contracts in the form of Graves, JTC or Donskoi. Lots of people talk about buying out EJ but I'm not sure that would happen - that's a lot of dead space to deal with for the next four years but it would get them $4M back for the next two years an they'll need the $2M in dead space after that (when Mac comes up for his contract). My gut says they wouldn't do that to him but you never know because they do need the space. He's still a good player but has had terrible luck with injuries the past few years.

I feel like they'd be better off if they simply found ways to get rid of JTC, Graves and Donny via expansion or trade; that would free up almost $10M right away and make room for young guys to join the roster. At that point, they can pay Landy and Gru near their market value to stay with a winning team, bridge Makar to get out from under EJ's deal, then re-sign Makar and Mac at the same time in the same way Toews and Kane did so many years ago. Is that the way it will play out? Probably not but it's at least plausible.
