With only a year left and his being above a .920sv% when he's not overworked, there's no price to pay to get rid of him that makes sense. He's as good as most of the goalies that'll be available in free agency. No sense in moving him.

TBH I would rather Seattle take Gio. He is declining pretty quickly and we should let younger guys play in to top 6 (Hanifin Andersson Valimaki and Tanev) yes I know Tanev is on the wrong side of 30 but he has been amazing for us and playing with Valimaki could help Valimaki's development substantially

Thank you! At first, I had Seattle taking Dickinson. However, I dont really know if they are willing to give him more than his current $1.5M with all these contracts they are taking on.
As for the G dilemna, I think that you are right. Bishop needs to be protected, but if he has a career-ending injury or wants to waive, they could protect Khudobin instead!

Why would Washington pay a team to take a .78ppg player making less than 6 million>? that equals 64 points in an 82 game season. Not to mention Oshie is a natural leader and is from Seattle. I would trade V V or Sammy and let them pick Dillon / Schultz. Capitals also dont have to protect Ovi hes not signed yet.

That's fair I guess. I feel like Stalock could be good if they gave him a chance, and Smith has been good. I dont know if Smith plans on coming back though.. I just think that $4.5M could go a long way for the Oilers. Sending them Neal or Kassian would cost more in my opinion, so from my POV, this was their way of freeing up some cap before the start of free agency.

I get that. I just find it hard for them to get rid of their leader like that, but I am sure Seattle considers him if they do not protect him.

The length of that contract and his age. 4 more years after this one hurts. He is still producing? Yes. However, the Caps could use the cap to re-sign Ovi and Samsonov. They could let Seattle take a goalie and get rid of one of those 2 dmen, but their contracts arent long and they are not as old. I feel like this tandem is still young and with more experience can be a solid 1A-1B. I also got rid of the Kempny contract with this move to free up more cap. In their top 6, the Caps have Ovi, Backstrom, Kuznetsov, Mantha, Wilson and could easily move one of Sheary or Sprong into those roles. Will they be as efficient? Probably not, but it allows you to fill up other areas on your roster and re-sign your guys. Also, you could just protect Sheary instead of Ovi, no big deal.

I think for a lot of these the price is too high for the only expansion draft consideration the team gets to be "Seattle doesn't take x". I think for quite a few it would have to be "Seattle does take y" instead, because the drop in talent the team is losing is not worth the price they pay.

Edit: for the Jets for example, which is my team, insead of "Seattle doesn't take Appleton" maybe make it "Seattle does take CJ Suess", or whatever "throwaway" player you want to put in there.

McLeod plays a 3rd/4th line center role. Good at faceoffs and defensively. And very physical. Im surprised Merkley has more points than McLeod.

Also the compensation from Edmonton and Pittsburgh seems high. I know Pettersson has had a down year but I don't think his contract is that bad, and he's only 24. If I was Seattle I'd actually be fine with just taking him without compensation (I realize this may be a hot take).

For St. Louis, I feel like a team would pay 2nd + prospect for Dunn. Seattle also takes on Sundqvist, which helps them with their cap space. What would you suggest changing?

That's fair I guess. I feel like Stalock could be good if they gave him a chance, and Smith has been good. I dont know if Smith plans on coming back though.. I just think that $4.5M could go a long way for the Oilers. Sending them Neal or Kassian would cost more in my opinion, so from my POV, this was their way of freeing up some cap before the start of free agency.

I'd be prematurely penciling Stalock into a trade to Tampa Bay. They'll pay rather well for his low cap hit.

Edmonton's in a weird spot: the Kassian deal isn't even a season old yet, so it's likely that Holland - even though he likely doesn't protect him - grants Zack another season to try and get things back together. After that? All bets are off. If the price for dumping cash-dollars is too high, Edmonton's merely better off burying Neal for a year before looking to buy him out in the summer of 2022. This will minimize the dead cap against by two years, which will be important given the run of ELC's that will be up for grabs.

Given that there is a cheap solution out from Neal and odds suggest Holland wants to make good on the first Oiler contract he signed, neither man is likely going to be sent to the Kraken with a king's ransom. The UFA pool isn't strong enough to prioritize making every penny available and the Oilers don't actually need THAT much money this year (assuming RNH and Larsson are resigned, Barrie walks). It's a bigger deal the following year.

Edmonton going 4-4 isn't a great option either. Right now, their protection list should look like:
7F: Archibald*, Benson, Draisaitl, McDavid, Nugent-Hopkins, Puljujarvi, Yamamoto
                                                              3D: Bear, Klefbom, Nurse
                                                              1G: Koskinen*

As I see it Edmonton has two options:
                                                              1. Allow Seattle to take Jones
                                                              2. Trade Jones for Hill/Vanacek (Vanacek would require a three-way deal given that the Caps don't have 'extra' protection slots) or as part of a package for a scoring winger and let the Kraken have their take of Archibald*, Kahun, Kassian, Khaira, Koskinen*, Turris, or any unprotected UFAs.

If Edmonton acquires a winger for Jones, I don't protect Archibald despite his utility. If it's Hill or Vanacek, then exposing Koskinen isn't the end of the world: I figure that Allen, Holtby, and whichever of Hill/Vanacek Edmonton doesn't acquire are more alluring for the Kraken to take over Koskinen. All three are cheaper, which gives them more room to wheel-and-deal with those teams actually willing to pay the price to dump cap.

Now @Marcsnack did you meet the exposure requirements for the draft?

I did! All mentioned above!! A few teams would need to resign a couple of their depth guys prior to the draft and they are good to go.

Also the compensation from Edmonton and Pittsburgh seems high. I know Pettersson has had a down year but I don't think his contract is that bad, and he's only 24. If I was Seattle I'd actually be fine with just taking him without compensation (I realize this may be a hot take).

I am sure there will be trades made prior to the draft. I cant do this assuming it though, it makes things far too complicated, so I am doing it based on these rosters.
