I actually like how it looks on the Flames line up, I think it would definitely mean re signing Gaudreau and moving on from Monahan. Got to remember that Tkachuk's value may not be as high as it was before this year, a team trading for him would either need to sign him long term or qualify him at 9 million next year. Tough spot if he goes somewhere he doesn't want to be.

So keep Gaudreau if this happens? What could we realistically trade Monahan for?

Gotta think Monahan's value would be high end to mid round second at this point, you'd assume the Flames would have to take back some significant money if they wanted a first round pick/high end NHL ready prospect.

Who would be interested in Monahan? Wild's GM has already said they aren't. Columbus maybe?

Rangers, Blue Jackets, Panthers, Sabres if they , maybe a Duchene+ deal with Nashville, Montreal if Danault walks, personally I think Vegas is a great fit in a move for a Marchassault or Smith

What would have to be added for Marchassault?

Well it would take Marchassault waiving a NTC which might be hard to do to even get things moving, then I think it would be something along the lines of:

Marchessault and Carrier/McNabb or retain on Monahan to make money work

for

Monahan and a 3rd if the Knights are adding a player to the deal or Monahan @ 5 million

What about Smith when his M-NTC is over next year?

Value wise I would think Vegas would add a touch. Maybe you look at a Smith McNabb package or Smith Carrier. Even just Smith and 4th kind of thin would work in my mind.

I’d probably be more open to it if one of the Tkachuks or Stutzle can play centre but if Stutzle will be a winger, it might be tough to have a weak C depth.

Flames decline they aren’t going to get sutter to come out of retirement to start a rebuild after him being here for 20 games. There’s 0% chance the flames accept this and 0% chance the flames enter a rebuild

I think Sean Monahan makes more sense. Won't cost nearly as much, and he fits the role Ottawa is supposedly looking to fill. I think something in the ball park of White + two 2nds should get it done. Maybe it's a guy like Jarventie or Thomson instead of one of the 2nds if they'd prefer a prospect.

How on earth is getting an NHL ready do man and a right shot C that only has room to grow in a shallow C position starting a rebuild? This makes the Flames roster better after expansion no doubt about it.

It’s doesn’t upgrade them while sutter is here maybe in the future but right now brannstrom isn’t any better than a bottom pairing d man and pinto is an ahl player. And the value is still not there even if the flames were entering a rebuild

I'm not sure what Sean Monahan you're thinking of but this is back to back half point per game season Sean Monahan we are talking about. Braanstrom projects to be similar to or better than Valimaki, that's a perfect bottom pairing D for next season and beyond. Pinto finished the college season with 32 point in 28 games, 13th in the country in points per game, jumped to the NHL and has three helpers in eight games on a bad team, that's not an AHL player whatsoever, that immediately fills the need for a right shot C behind Backlund.

So a bottom pairing defensmen and 4th line center are an improvement over a second line cente?

That is the dumbest thing I have ever heard, it actually shocks me that all you could understand from what was written is that.

Pinto probably looks like Batherson next year, Brannstrom is a huge upgrade on the D core that the Flames rolled out this year. If Tkachuk moves in a deal the left side behind him is still GAudreau, Mangiapane, Dube, Zary, Pelletier, MEP. Plus a top ten pick that could make an impact this season, PLUS, 7 million in cap room PLUS no need to pay Tkachuk 9 at the end of next season. This deal literally improves the Flames for next season and gives them room improve the RW and to sign a proper 2C (Danault, RNH) and ditch Monahan

If you think tkachuk should be moved you clearly aren’t a flames fan and haven’t ever watched any flames games. Flames aren’t going to trade thier best player for a few prospects that could easily bust
