Can we get some respect on Kanes name - Kane is underrated

Description
The consensus on the Sharks is that Hertl is the most valuable trade piece (with a return being between a first and a prospect to a first and a valuable prospect +; meaning a first and a decent prospect to a first, a highly rated prospect, and maybe a small add). Based on this season plus last - I would argue Kane is one of the more valuable players if not the most the Sharks own.

I know a Kane trade is very unlikely/ hard to predict as Kane has just fit perfectly with the Sharks organization and team; and that adds to the difficulty in trading Kane as that team is not guaranteed to get the player the Sharks have.

I argue most people would complain if a person suggested a Sharks/ Kane trade returning more than a first and a good prospect - but Kane is a legit threat and also gets hate consistently.

Kane I would say is underrated - as most people have a blind dislike for him or think he’s “overpayed”..?

      If Kane were to be traded (a teams players and organization plus Evander Kane are on the same page in the trade meaning there’s no chance of friction on arrival/ trade);
He should command a first, a good prospect, and at least a roster player.

As I acknowledge in the post slightly - but that’s also multiple years ago (as I said Kane and said team are on the same page in this hypothetical). Which would mean players like Patrick Kane should also have value reduced (his past). But also things are also slightly continuing to happen in Buffalo currently - leading to something in Buffalo has a cultural issue internally. Kane is obviously at fault for his past but that does not mean he’s fully to blame nor should he punished years later.

Obviously as I said, “said organization” and their team plus Kane would need to converse to have the smoothest transition but that should not take away from the play Kane provides. Which is more than just a quality player. If you just traded Kane and it was the perfect fit (like the Sharks) after conversation - he should return a fitting haul and I think most people value Kane as less/ equal to a first; which is absurdly funny.

Why should Patrick Kane have his value reduced. Kane was run out of both Buffalo and Winnipeg and the fans hated him and there a rumours his teammates hated him aswell. There’s never been rumours that Patrick Kane’s teammates hate him. Kane still has controversy like how he forced a girl to get an abortion and said he pay her and never did or how there’s many places that claim he’s hasn’t payed his tabs.

Unrelated, but why do the Sharks not use Pateryn? He played really well in the game that I watched him play.. not sure why they took him out for Jaros who is not nearly as good IMO

I wouldn’t say Patrick Kane is underrated, everyone knows what he is and what he does.

Sorry, I couldn’t resist. Evander Kane has been really good in San Jose this year and if it weren’t for the previous stuff, he’d probably be much better respected.

He’s been absolutely fantastic this year. When he stays out of the box and stays level-headed he’s the most dominant and consistent player on the ice. I don’t think the fact that he’s having a career year and the fact he’s cut WAY down on the penalties this season is a coincidence.

Either way quite a decent portion of the users on this site haven’t actually watched him and think he’s worth a 2nd rounder at best. His personal issues factor in a bit for sure but you’re right about about him he’s worth much more than people give him credit for (at least at this point in time)

I believe it’s testing out young guys with more cushion. Jaros likely is fighting for a job next year and guys like Pasnichuk need a rep in. I believe Merkley could see 1 game but that’s very unlikely. I think Pateryn may stick around but it’d likely be depth/ AHL if he wants to stay in SJ (I think someone said his wife is from SJS and he liked the fit in coming over). Plus it’s realistically better if we lose games for a better pick so I think management could care less if playing a young guy results in a few screw ups as it’s just better to let them learn

Patrick Kane has history of attacking a cab driver (while drunk) (whether the full extent will ever be known, or blown out of proportion).

The point being Patrick Kane shouldn’t be blasted for years for something he did while younger/ that likely has been resolved.

The same for Kane as these allegations are NOT CONFIRMED. As he is counter sueing. We are not involved in that situation nor is there any actual evidence that is public/ not hearsay. We
should not comment on that issue as not only is it a touchy subject, and a serious one. But we do not even have the full information (as you said it’s a rumour/ controversy).

The point being if you’ve been on a sports team before - sometimes there’s disdain with teammates (which is clearly what happened in WPG). Buffalo seemed to be the losing/ internal issues. This meaning not only is it the past but it happens all the time in sports and likely all the time currently but not always made public. I’ve been on teams where the team dislikes 1 single person and that person has the same right to be upset (as that clearly is not fun) as the people who may not like them (for whatever reason).

Matthew to under went similar off ice issues yet it’s not discussed or brought up as it was resolved. Should matthews be blasted for years? No. Is he in the wrong and hopefully learned a lesson and probably escaped punishment due to being famous? Yes. Is Matthews past brought up when he’s talked about; no not at all lol.

Yeah, I hope he at least gets some better looks if we’re better in the future. As he definitely would be a big part in our future success (if there is any LOL)

The penalty thing is huge. He was playing well at the start of the year but still was taking a ton of penalties and then all of the sudden what he went like 20+ games with like only 1 or two penalties (something along those lines) and at the same times he’s been driving the offence ever since. He’s really learned to play with edge but control his emotions and he’s lethal. Just happy to see he’s finding personal success as he clearly enjoys putting up points and not being frustrated by being in the box looool.

Kane has played possibly his best hockey this season. He is exactly the kind of player teams need in the playoffs.

I would say many of his problems in the past stem from immaturity the recent gambling issue may cause teams to pause. His NTC probably further muddies the water. The final problem with any Kane trade is salary and term in a flat cap era.

If Wilson were to trade Kane he would first need to talk to him and explain the Sharks aren't close and looking at a few down years, follow that up with can you give me a list of teams you would consider being traded to. Once Doug has the list he has to look at who is actually a cup team. From there Doug would need to decide what Sharks are willing to eat in Salary, do the Sharks retain considerable money or how big and how much term do they bring back to make the cap work.
Considering the salary cap gymnastics Doug should definitely get at minimum a lottery protected 1st, a A prospect and possibly a declining veteran who is still serviceable but is more valued for being a pros pro with no more than 2 years of term and making around 4 million.

I think Doug should possibly get even more.

All this I agree with. And as you said: in this hypothetical world we have to be objective and as you and I point out lmao; there’s gonna be a lot of talking. Meet with Kane, meet with the List of teams, meet with Kane again and get some conversations to ensure smooth transitions. Lol it’s a lot and maybe a little bit of a headache in a player trade but as you said if a team and Kane are on the same page; the Sharks could see a sizeable haul if things work out.

If anything else, it’s good to see Kane thriving as he’s learned to control his game and be lethal.

People pick and choose who they continue to hate or not and what they are willing to look past. Kane obviously has a problem but he's getting help and for that he should be praised, too many people suffer in silence. I don't feel as if the behavior issue is as much as a factor in his value as his cap hit though.

Eva see Kane is one of the worst people in the league, he is hated everywhere he goes.

Yeah as I was typing I was thinking I'm not really adding much here but at least I can reaffirm what you are putting out there.

Now for the important part, who is the right team for this deal?what would Kane be looking for.
One team that makes some sense to me would be the Florida Panthers. They don't have a playoff roster IMO and could definitely use a Kane. As far as Kane's motivation considering his current financial issues a tax free state would seem like decent motivation.

This is not just a response for you but anyone in the future so I get what you’re saying but I felt a more depth response is best. I 100% get what your point is! But...

          4 yrs SJS(only) NHL 207 85 75 160
Let’s add tonight’s game and points
208 games - 162 points (87 goals (unless he gets a hatty tonight))
          =
0.77 point pace (unless he gets more points tonight 2g so far)

Here is Kyle Connor: one of the best wingers in the game.
          =
          5 yrs NHL 299 127 118 245

          That’s is a 0.81 point pace.

Now Connor is obviously the better player. Even being younger adds more value. But you could not say Kane at 7m is bad at all with Connor at a steal for 6. Obviously the term and the cap make it the part at which you worry but I mean a cup contender getting Kane at 7.

I think if you’re a cup contender, 7m for a desired top 6er and “rare grit and skill” forward is definitely fine. Is it an IDEAL cap hit, not really but that’s few contracts. Kane definitely would’ve been the best trade deadline acquisition this TDL (over Hall
          And Palmieri: just my opinion).

I agree with Florida but here’s a REAL DOSEY.

Vegas. I think Vegas is by far the best fit and if Vegas EVER GETS A CHANCE to acquire Kane I think they should do it. No, they need to do it.

Rivalry blood is OBVIOUS. But can you imagine Vegas swapping Patches for Kane and additionally just Kane is such a perfect fit on paper. Kane - Center - Stone is just a scary thought. Idc who the Center is; you throw that line out there I think you can tell
Tampa/ Colorado to relax on the cup aspirations.

Nobody really debates that he's a good player, but I don't think a trade is even possible. Isn't San Jose still likely to terminate his contract this summer due to his gambling debts? Last I remember from that story was that they had been granted a 90 day extension on the deadline, but that terminating his contract would still be the most likely course of action.

Paccioretty is much better than Kane, and is already a perfect fit with Mark Stone. Arguably the best Duo in the NHL.

Apologies I misread Patches stats. I thought it said 27 points. He has 27 assists. I compeltly misread his stats and so my comments on him are dumb lol

No I don't think it's bad contract, it's not great but not terrible. I just think no matter who you are teams have a hard time clearing 7 million dollars in cap space for a contract with that much term as most teams are up against the limit to make a trade.

On the ice I see the fit however I refuse to believe Reeves and Kane can coexist in the same locker room. Also like you said the whole rivalry thing the last problem is the salary cap but what can I say Vegas finds a way to make things happen.

Yeah I haven't seen much on it at all. Nor do I think there is a exact idea on whats gonna happen. As the Sharks said theyre committed to helping him and paying him but there is the idea if buying out the contract to help him in court (not the exact wording but that's paraphrasing of the idea ive seen floated).

I would assume Sheng Peng or Kevin Kurz would be the first update us in the future

Oh I agree but the point being if the Sharks and said team workout the money I don't think anyone can say he himself isnt worth 7

yeah Vegas isnt as good if they can keep patches cheap. I misread his stats for my examples. And also haha yeah but it would be good TV with a behind the scenes 24/7 type deal

Florida still the best, though if you go into my recent posts youll see Kane to Ottawa; ottawa, I sold kane low to just float the idea (with a return like Dadonov, Logan Brown, and a 2nd; seeming somewhat okay, with Abaramov, LBrown, 2nd seeming close); Out there but Kane in Ottawa does seem plausible when discussing fits.

Maybe if he wasn’t a piece of **** people would actual appreciate how good he is. Same goes for Tom Wilson, Brad Marchand and prime Corey Perry.
