People pick and choose who they continue to hate or not and what they are willing to look past. Kane obviously has a problem but he's getting help and for that he should be praised, too many people suffer in silence. I don't feel as if the behavior issue is as much as a factor in his value as his cap hit though.
This is not just a response for you but anyone in the future so I get what you’re saying but I felt a more depth response is best. I 100% get what your point is! But...
4 yrs SJS(only) NHL 207 85 75 160
Let’s add tonight’s game and points
208 games - 162 points (87 goals (unless he gets a hatty tonight))
=
0.77 point pace (unless he gets more points tonight 2g so far)
Here is Kyle Connor: one of the best wingers in the game.
=
5 yrs NHL 299 127 118 245
That’s is a 0.81 point pace.
Now Connor is obviously the better player. Even being younger adds more value. But you could not say Kane at 7m is bad at all with Connor at a steal for 6. Obviously the term and the cap make it the part at which you worry but I mean a cup contender getting Kane at 7.
I think if you’re a cup contender, 7m for a desired top 6er and “rare grit and skill” forward is definitely fine. Is it an IDEAL cap hit, not really but that’s few contracts. Kane definitely would’ve been the best trade deadline acquisition this TDL (over Hall
And Palmieri: just my opinion).
