MTL would rather have Lehkonen at 2.4M than Compher at 3.5M + we need Left Wingers not Right wingers

JVR trade is bad real bad. One it’s an over pay. Two he is such a bad fit stylistically that he might literally be an anchor on any line he plays. And two years to Glendening who literally is straight awful?

TBH, Philly turns that trade down too. JVR is the highest scorer on the team and has played a better all-around game than has been expected since he re-signed in Philly. I don't expect him to be dealt, and his contract is part of the reason; he shouldn't fetch enough value for what he's worth staying on the team. It's one of those situations where it is just better to keep the player as a good fit right where he is.

he can keep up. he also gets to the net which the avs desperately need, especially on that 2nd line and pp.

That is true, but I think via UFA are trading for a 3C like Kerfoot Compher etc without giving up a player (Lehky) would be better. They have a lot of draft picks

no worries. i assumed habs would just want an elc to talk his spot so it's more money out. a draft pick would work better for the avs.

He is not a good transition player and that’s what the Avs are. Who on the top 6 outside of Burakovsky won’t go to the net? Hell I’d rather buyout Compher to bring back Saad then pay that and have to watch JVR try and keep up.

everyone but landeskog. they all perfer the rush or cycle along the board. avs could use a big net front presence.

buying out compher is just dead cap space.

That’s ridiculous go look at their heat maps for shots and goals they all go to the net.

I said buyout Compher because I’m one of the Avs fans on her that doesn’t think he is a waste to emphasize my point.

And Newhook on the 4th line is a waste of talent.

jvr's is better than everyone except landeskog. although kardi's was higher than i thought.

compher can turn it around but he isn't worth what he's getting paid right now.

newhook can move up with good play or injuries. i see no reason to pencil him in any higher in the lineup until he earns it. depth is a good thing.

JVR we will agree to disagree.

Compher agree.

Newhook is a top 6 guy, playing him on an energy/checking line is waste of talent. He was rated as the 9th best prospect in the league for a reason and is averaging over a ppg with the Eagles. You want him to continue that offense and grow defensively so you play him with high skilled guys, not wasting time forechecking with guys like LOC (no knock on him). You don’t have a Ferrari and use it as a pick up truck because you want to drive it. Let him do what he does best, score, and figure out the rest as his goes not go do something else then hope later after he figures out the defense to play offense.

ahl isn't what it normal is. watered down this year. i just don't see the need to pencil him in any higher. if he doesn't deliver than you have a hole to fill midseason. the avs are contenders. i'd rather him work is way up the lineup.

That’s called poor asset management. The kid has elite offensive skills. What’s the most valuable thing in hockey? The ability to score? Dropping him into the 4th line to do things you aren’t going to ask him to do in his career is foolish. I’d rather him be in the AHL them playing on the 4th line playing against the type of player he is. You didn’t draft him in the 1st round to be a grinder you drafted him to score, play him and develop him as such.

yea that's an option too. hold off until next season. but i like the idea of him getting some nhl experience next season.

poor asset management is assuming you have that you don't. like assuming a prospect is a sure thing and guaranteeing them a spot and a role.

True but also poor asset management is putting them in a position to not succeed. It like in baseball if you have a power pitcher that throws 95+ you don’t make him start throwing a knuckle ball or play 1st. Newhook should at worst play on the 3rd line next year.

No taxi squads next year. Unless the Avs are going to carry less than the standard 23 players you're going to have to find a couple million somewhere for 3 more players. Gonna be tight. Grubauer might take 5.5 to stay with a cup contender, but he'll get offers from other teams for more. Landeskog might stay for 7.5 which would save you a mil, and maybe they get Makar for a hair over 8?? Just to beat what Chabot got in Ottawa. Still tough to fit.

But if they win the cup this year, they'll lose one of those guys... likely Grubauer.

5.5m is market for gru. should be enough. also enough money for a 22 man roster which should be enough.

I agree, but there are other teams that will offer more. Guarantee the Oilers would offer 6M/4yrs. I suspect Grubauer will be willing to take a slight haircut to stay in Colorado... unless they win the cup.
