I couldn’t disagree more. That top line just can’t do it anymore. Wheeler isn’t that elite play driver that line needs anymore and as a result he commits too much to either defence or offence and he isn’t there for the one he leaves (usually he commits too much to offence and isn’t there for the defence). This isn’t a knock on wheeler, but Connor just isn’t in that place yet where that line will be effective. Father Time is catching up to wheeler, though he had one of his better games of the season tonight.
I really liked what Copp did on that top line and what dubios could do on the 3rd. We’ve also seen Copp-scheifele-ehlers work well together. I also really liked what that 2nd line brought tonight and to think they did that against that draisaitl line is even more impressive. With a top line like the one I proposed drawing mcdavid, and lowry’s line drawing draisaitl, that line would eat up the oilers 3rd line. I think the jets may have found their combos tonight.
As for benn, I liked what he brought. Jets fans are going to hate me for this, but I think he should at least be considered to play against the oilers instead of Stanley. Benn is much more mobile and it really freed up demelo to play a more assertive style that we haven’t been able to see him play. That said, I still go with Stanley in the lineup because in case of an injury in the top 4 during a game, I’m much more comfortable with Stanley in the top 4 than benn. Also, Stanley adds a mean streak that the jets don’t have.
