Gotta think the Ducks would be much better off keeping Jones and Steel and about 1.5m each, spending 7m on a UFA and keep their second overall.

Why would they move Eichel for #2 in a terrible draft

Combined Jones and Steel have 2 more points than Eichel. Eichel has missed 50% of the season and played the other 50% hurt

I was thinking the exact same thing, There's noway if i'm Adams that i trade Eichel to Anaheim without one of Zegras or Drysdale heading the other way.

True but the point is Eichel is 10m cap. Ducks could spend 10m on UFAs and keep their second overall pick. Sabres are never going to true on ice value for Eichel, because of his 10m cap.

Maybe no one. But that still doesn't mean the Ducks want to give up second overall . But certainly in a cap strapped, Ducks could spend 10m and get good players. Certainly not spending 15m in Skinner and Okposo type UFAs.

Too bad no one will remember this comment in two or three years, when that #2 overall pick turns out to be the next Victor Hedman or Roman Josi . . .

The NHL experts think Power may become a top pair dman, but is probably slotted for the 2nd pair. Thats your consensus #1 pick

What seems to bug me is no matter what any team puts on the table for Eichel, you immediately come up with some sort of stupid excuse. Stop acting like Jack Eichel is the best hockey player in the league. He's literally rotting away in Buffalo and you and the rest of Buffalo are too selfish to want to see him succeed. He will never succeed in Buffalo. So suck it up and stop acting like a child whining for candy.

You keep making bald assumptions about a draft that hasn't occurred yet, and careers that are far from beginning yet. I think that there's an excellent possibility that Power isn't the first player drafted, and either one of the other two defensemen at the top of the mock draft lists could become a Norris Trophy winner.

That's true but the best player in this draft might end up being someone that goes 50th o/a. The point is there aren't any players in this draft that have separated themselves to a level where it is easy to say who will most likely end up being stars.

I just saw a draft preview, forget where, one of the scouts said powers reminds them of hedman at the same age, except hes worse in every possible category. So, hes tall. Im not going to be upset if we draft him, i would prefer one of the fowards, but your point is still 100% valid, this draft class isnt what everybody is expecting from next years class, and that matters if you are judging the value of a 21 first round pick. Case in point- would anaheim take this years 1oa for zegras? How about next years? Actually the kid in 23 is supposed to be even better.

Let's be clear...Eichel has never shown up in a season like Kane...he's not at that level so far in his young career. However, at Kane's age I would do it but Kane won't waive and I don't run the team.

So are you saying that Buffalo should turn down the chance at another very high draft pick?

Because it sounds to me that you're NOT saying that.

What you're going off of is the conflation of "I can't tell who will most likely become a star player" into "this is a weak draft."

Don't you see the silly fallacy in the reasoning that "we can't tell which of 30 guys is any better than the other 29, so they all must stink"?

The fact that pundits can't agree on who are the best players to draft this year means nothing more than that the quality is consistent. Now, that quality may be bad, or it may be good . . . but simply because people are confused doesn't automatically mean that this is a "weak" draft.

Personally, having read more than a dozen dissertations on this year's draft prospects leads me to conclude that any team that doesn't make the playoffs this year has an excellent chance to get a game-changer in the first round. Look where guys like Matt Barzal and Roman Josi and Dylan Larkin and even Cole Caufield or Nick Suzuki were taken.

Every draft is like throwing darts at a dartboard . . . only this year, everyone will be blindfolded due to underexposure. In that circumstance, the best strategy isn't to give all your darts away but to collect as many of them as possible.

In short, the idea that the second overall pick this year is somehow worth less than in any other year is . . . one with which I can't agree.

I am saying the Sabres should not even listen to an offer from Anaheim for Eichel if Zegras is not involved. The odds of any return the Sabres get in a deal for Eichel coming close to his on ice value are slim. The proposed return here would likely have less impact combined than Zegras will have on his own

What NHL expert said Power is most likely a second pair D? Think it’s a little odd considering McKenzie just put out his mid season ranking and this was in it.

“Still, the consensus amongst scouts is Power projects to be a No. 1 NHL defenceman. The worst-case scenario envisioned for him, if he weren’t to attain true No. 1 status, is that he’s going to be a top-pair NHL blueliner who can be impactful with and without the puck in all three zones.”

That’s just one of the professional scout he quotes, there’s others in that same article but let’s get back to my question. What source do you have for that second pairing comment?
