To me, none of this makes any sense at all.
1. Philadelphia needs JVR for scoring for their PP, letting Seattle take him makes very little sense.
2. Calgary has no incentive to make this deal straight up. If they move Backlund, they're likely looking at a retool or maybe even a rebuild. In what way does taking on more salary, for a far less valuable and just not better of a player, do them any good? Not to mention that trading a centre for a winger makes no sense at all either.
3. Ristolainen has some value, as bad as he's been. But he's not that much value to be used as a sweetener to move the anchor of a contract of Okposo. Buffalo wouldn't look to negate Ristolainen's value anymore by attaching it to an Okposo deal. So it makes no sense for Buffalo to do it for that little of a return, and it makes no sense for Philadelphia to add $8.4M in cap room for 2 non impactful players.
4. Yikes. What an overpay based on name sake alone. Jones isn't THAT valuable at all. He's almost a liability in his own end, and he's not an elite offensive guy either, just a really good one. Plus he only has 1 year left on his deal. Considering what Nashville was looking for in a deal for Ekholm, and what Los Angeles got for Muzzin (1st, B+ prospect, third piece) and both of them had an additional year on their contract, I can't see Jones being any more valuable than that. Especially from a team at the bottom of the standings.
