Okay, so everyone is signing at the bottom of their range (except buchnevich), you have zero cap space, you don’t have a full roster, and you’ve got the same problem the next year. No cap and tons of raises to give. It just doesn’t work.

Bridging young key players is how nearly every team wins their cups. You can’t call it “bottom of their range” on 1-2 year deals for Kakko and Kravtsov unless they break out, in which case Buch can be traded to make room. Paying Fox the same money as John Carlson is in no way “bottom of his range.”

Year after you can let Lindgren walk, you also open up 2.5 in space from buyouts and the cap is expected to start moving again. Plus they have Robertson and Schneider ready to fill holes on D on ELCs. Only consequential guy that has to be paid is Laf and he can be covered by that.

Once again you're leaving out the fact that you'll have to pay for bonuses, There's absolutely noway you will be cap compliant giving Pettersson that much.

If all bonuses are met, You're looking at being over the cap by roughly $6,900,000 and you still don't have a full complete roster.

Cap isn’t moving for a while. Probably four years.
2nd overall picks normally don’t get bridged for 2x2. If he even sniffs 20 goals next year he’ll probably be asking for 5 on a bridge. It’s just pretty obvious that you’re at the bottom of the range for each player you re-signed.

So, again, lets say this works, and kakko takes 2x2 for some reason. It won’t, but lets pretend.

No cap space, don’t have a full roster, and next year lafreniere, miller, and maybe jones have to be re-signed with no cap space. How do that work? Lafreniere signing for league min?

So demanding a trade to NYR and refusing to play for current team, not once, but with 2 separate teams... Will only play in NYR... 8M is the bottom of his range?! Rather than thinking he might take a “Sidney sweetheart Crosby” deal at like 6M so he can give his team a better chance to be fully loaded for cup runs...

8 million is kinda the sweetheart number, don’t ya think?

I’ll say this one more time: forcing your way to a team when every team has to pay you the same amount is one thing. Staying with that team when they won’t pay you fair market is another.

Ya 8m is a sweetheart deal for sure, after his bridge. 3-4 years from now he will get that payday. I do find it amusing the amount of people who say ADA or Strome will get 7M+ and then are way off. Mcavoy and every other D man gets the 4-5m bridge but somehow the team that always bridges doesn’t do one 🤔

Mcavoy was in a pretty different situation than fox. He was the group 2 (i may have gotten that number wrong) RFA. Not eligible for an offer sheet. Basically can only sign what his team gives him.

I think four years is out for fox, given that it would take him to UFA status. Given that he is eligible for an offer sheet, i think he probably gets 8 mill on a deal with any term. 1x6 probably works for him though. The point remains, this just doesn’t work with the cap. It is very clear.

Oh ya, sorry if I lead you to believe I want this to happen(getting EP), I absolutely want nothing to do with him. If 4 years takes fox to UFA then 3 it is, I’m not looking at those details. Does he qualify for a OS, sure, many have and OS just don’t happen... hmmm maybe TB cap hell with Sergachev/Cernak/Cirelli comes to mind. There’s 0 reason to believe that an OS will happen and basically only rebuilding teams below us with less potential could really afford it..

Wouldn’t you agree that negotiations go a lot differently if a player can’t sign with another team?
McAvoy: give me $8M or I’ll sign with another team!
Bruins: well, you aren’t allowed to. You have to take whatever we give you or you can sit out.
McAvoy: alright then.

Fox: Give me $8M or I’ll go sign an offer sheet with another team for $10, and you’ll match it anyway.
Rangers: ya, okay.

They both were!
They aren’t in the class of player as mcavoy and fox. And then there’s that whole tax free market stuff, but you can’t compare those kinds of guys to mcavoy and fox.

Well I guess time will tell if OS are still a thing. Again, signing an OS to go to end up on a weaker team seems like a bad idea but if it’s all about a few extra million then he may as well

Alright, lets try this again. Simple question. Assuming player A and player B have the exact same resume, and are for all intents and purposes, the same player, which one has a stronger bargaining position:
A. Is not allowed to sign, or negotiate with any other team.
B. Is allowed to sign, and negotiate with any other team.

Yes, I know exactly what you are saying. And I fully agree with the concept. But do you truly believe there is never an exception to a rule? Why did Crosby not take max $ when everyone knew he was the generational player back then. So your theory is spot on, bullseye.. but in practice things can be different.

I mean, he got paid. Pretty sure he was the second highest paid player in the league year one after his ELC, and he signed a super player friendly term that got him to UFA just one year after the minimum. By comparison, ovechkin got half a mill more or whatever but locked himself in for 13 years.

We can reconnect when the contract is signed to discuss. No sense waste time disputing something over a year away. Everyone seems to think NYR will fail during their cap hell while other teams succeed in it. I’m not the least bit concerned but if you or others want to be that’s cool

I don’t think they’ll fall into cap hell because i don’t think there’s anyway they’re giving an 11 million dollar offer sheet to someone. My overall point is that it wasn’t possible for the rangers to offer sheet someone at 11 mill while keeping their young talent beyond a year.
