You forgot the 2 first round picks it will ACTUALLY take to get rid of Okposo and his two frickin goals...We don't have cap problems and Dekeyser is not a cap dump for us so there's no way were taking your 12 million dollars for a third round pick.

Doesn’t make a ton of sense for Detroit, 4M DeKeyser for one year and a 6M Okposo for 2 years isn’t a third round difference. I’d wager DeKeyser is close to LTIRetire anyway based on injury history, otherwise, he’s a serviceable LD.

Carolina isn’t taking Skinner, they have to sign Svechnikov & Hamilton.

Buffalo gets screwed in the Philly trade.

I don’t see why SJ would pay for Hutton, the guy sucks.

So you wanna retain 2.5 million for 6 years AND move our first round pick in the really good 22 draft AFTER you give eichel away? You realize that we could just buy skinner out and pay that much for an additional 5 years AND get to keep a pick that could be a generational talent, right? There is literally no chance that happens.

I heard that Niskanen had retired, and his contract ends this season in any event. Shouldn't you be using the 2021-2022 roster framework?

Why give up an asset to trade Okposo with 17 million in cap space available. He is grossly overpaid but an effective bottom 6 forward. The Sabres just ride out his last 2 years unless someone is willing to take his contract for a palatable price and they are up against the cap

Every single thing you’ve decided to do here except trying to rip off Detroit to take Okposo is stupid. And if any Sabres GM did any of these other things he should be fired immediately.

Carolina already had to deal with Skinner once... no way they take him back except on a one day contract for him to retire. It was the Sabres fault for signing him to that terrible contract. That contract and this situation could have been avoided if you looked at his yearly stats and his stats in contract years.

No the two year cap hit at 6 million dollars is what matters. And yes it would cost every bit of that and probably more.

I don’t think it will cost 2x first round picks + especially when you factor in Buffalo is the worst team in the NHL nor did they acquire a first round pick at the TDL. It would also acquire a lot more than a third rounder based on deals we’ve already seen completed. I also don’t think people understand the NHL is a business so total dollars do count for most of these owners. ROR was traded pre-roster bonus of 7.5M is an example of your team potentially cutting costs or the fact the Pegulas cut ~23 FO staff and haven’t rehired anyone to replace them. The last I checked they had 7 scouts. I’d understand firing them if they didn’t perform to expectations but then you’d back fill the position which wasn’t done.

I'm using hyperbole to make a point to someone who seems incapable of accepting the current cap reality. I don't know why Buffalo would want to make a trade like this but if they did the cost from our perspective is the same whether they NEED to do or just want to do it. Every thing I've read from every insider indicates that cap space is even more valuable than it was a year ago when Toronto coughed up a first to shed Marleau. So yeah it might not be two firsts per se but the cost would be similarly painful.

Except again this is a false equivalency. We don't want or need to trade Dekeyser. You are cap dumping Okposo a player making 6 million dollars for two more years who has scored two goals.

thats imaginary, sabres dont need to dump anybody. Okposo is way more useful than Dekeyser even with 2 goals

Have you seen someone employed by an NHL franchise demand a third to take him on? How about using comparable cap dump trades to formulate an education guess on the cost to dump him?

Interesting, why does Detroit want to trade DDK? Why is Okposo > DDK in your mind? How did you come up a third to buyout the last year which results in 4.67M in dead cap and 2.67M in cash? We can use TDL retention to determine cap/cash in this manner or Marleau’s buyout. Prime example just happened with Detroit retaining on Savard which cost us roughly 200k for a fourth round pick.
