I saw a Habs post earlier that followed a similar strategy to attempt to move Carey Price.

My question-Why would a team that's likely not a contender (Unless they overachieve a-la Vegas) use almost 15% of their total cap like this? I'm not saying either player is bad, but you're going to pay $6.75 mil/year over 5 years for the bad years of his contract, and $5 mil/year for a 40-50 pts guy, when they could get far more value out of picks/prospects to take on contracts like these?

yep Seattles gonna want a 1st + a good prospect to take on those two bad contracts.

It's going to take a lot more than a 2nd rounder to entice Seattle to take on BOTH of those contracts.

I think I'd rather take Cernak or Killorn.

I'd want that just to take on one of those contracts. There's so much talent to pick from on this team.

Big time. Seattle is going to have their pick of the litter when it comes to getting assets for taking on undesirable contracts. There will be a lineup of teams looking to dump players.

Any bad value contract is almost untradeable. Johnson and McDonagh....11.75m, Seattle will be able to spend that on better UFAs. It's the term of Johnson/McDonagh and Price that make it too hard too swallow for any team to take on their contracts. A very good player like Eichel is a difficult trade Even if a team with cap...let's say the Kings, they probably don't want to give up two good prospects and a first rounder for Eichel. They keep those three young assets, and spend about 10m on the UFA market.
