As a hockey fan I would love to see this. I truly believe that if Price got out of Montreal he would return to good form. Not 2014 Carey Price. But solid.

I think it might be more likely that Price is traded to Seattle with minor retention as part of a deal with them Seattle. Seattle agrees to take basically no one from Montreal then they make a trade of Price and a pick for whatever small asset back

taking 10.5m straight up is tough, not even worth it for 2 1st rounders in a flat cap era

    1. Montreal is not trading Price, management believes that he is still elite.
    2. It would not cost anything to move Price, he still has a reputation and value around the league GM's and would still return a decent amount of picks\prospects no matter what fans believe.

I had him in my recent AGM going to Seattle along with Poehling and Evans and I feel NHL mgmt see him as like a 6M$ goalie so each to offset 2M$ maybe?

    Idk

Funny that he's actually a 2M$ goalie currently

Habs will likely hire a new GM right after this season is over ...

Fair points though that reputation has taken a big dent recently tho and 10.5M$ in such tight economic times for anyone who isn't McDavid, Matthews, etc.

Well so far we have responses of:

    ✔ two 1sts isn't enough

    ✔ no assets required whatsoever

    Fascinating

I think the best way to look at it is "Do you want to invest 12.9% of your cap space on the age 34, 35, 36, 37, and 38 seasons of a goaltender who has been below league average in 3 of the past 4 seasons."

I do agree with the name value/reputation fact, but we've seen time and time again how dumb it is for teams to sign or trade for players based on those attributes.

Yes, it has taken a hit but Montreal can still trade him with retention bringing back some of the value lost by the dent in his reputation. Also Seattle needs to hit the cap floor and IF Price was left unprotected that would not only help with getting a big name player to sell tickets but also hit the cap floor, and he may be 33 but he is still young enough to turn around his career. It is a low risk high return type of transaction that any team would take a gamble on.

Price won't waive to go anywhere but a true contender. he's 33 years old he will have no interest in going to a rebuilding or a brand new franchise.

I’m really tempted to say the Red Wings should jump all over him seeing that they have no clear direction in net. Most fans will disagree since Steve Y has spent the last couple years shedding expensive aging vets. If the acquisition bonus was two firsts and I was gm I would take it
