I'd rather see the Blues keep Dunn long-term but I have a feeling that they'll find a hockey trade this offseason, maybe before the expansion draft. IMO Dunn has been pretty good in this dismal season. A few boneheaded plays here and there always seem to find the back of his net when he's out there, but I think his positives outweigh the negatives. But this is the Blues, they'll find a way to move out talent to replace it with something more boring. I hope they can at least bring in someone like Debrusk, but this is the team that traded Oshie for Troy Brouwer... Fabbri for De la Rose... wouldn't be surprised to see Dunn for Clutterbuck at this point :(
Anyway, here's what the team might look like next year. Better than the Avs? Vegas? If you follow the aging curves of the core, is it even a playoff team if one or two of these guys fall off the cliff? Will they be better than the gd Blackhawks? Outlook hazy. I'm just eternally grateful that they won that cup in '19... and part of me wishes that they would've used the immunity gained from the cup to focus on building a team that doesn't consist of aging players fading fast, locked up for 6 more years with trade protection. Oh well, can't blame them for trying to keep the window open, but IMO all they did was make it heavier for when it slams shut.
The b's probably do not make that trade before expansion for the same reason. They'll either lose Dunn or Grzelcyk... I dont think the value of the deal is off though. I like Sanford
