I was ****ting myself trying to pick between Stone and Marner, but I don't think I'd take Varlomov over my top 5 anymore

That makes sense. I would also add Hughes for Hart, Hughes for Selke, Smith for Norris, Blackwood for Vezina, and Smith for Calder

Good job on this

First of all, I agree with most of your rankings and great work. BUT THANK YOU! Finally someone who nominates Ned for Calder.

The Selke rankings should have Matthews on it. He's the best defensive player on the Leafs but since he scores so much people don't give him credit.

The Calder race is pretty much between Kap and JRob, the last nominee will be the best goalie.

Even over Marner? Auston's defence is easily the most underrated in the NHL, considering that stale reputation pre-2019, but I didn't think it was THAT good. But you probably know more than I do in that department.

Stone is considered one of the best because of the turnovers he creates and yet Matthews is better. He just doesn't kill penalties so people use that against him. His 200 foot game is one of the best in the league.

Idk I don't have a lot of time for back up goalies or 25 year olds in the Calder Conversation, so I'd probably rework that imo. I don't think guys who are in the prime of their career, with 6-8 years of Professional hockey experience should really be allowed to be considered rookies.

As far as goalies go, maybe it's an anti goalie bias, but as far as I'm concerned, if you're not getting a starter workload you shouldn't be in that conversation. If Connor McDavid can't win playing just 45/82 games, I have a hard time putting goalies who will play like 32 games in a full season into the mix.

If I were to put a top 5 out for this year, I'd probably have:

Kaprizov
Robertson
Shesterkin (though I still think he should be too old)
Norris
Smith

- None of them are legitimate back up goalies. Nedeljkovic is clearly the successor for Mrazek/Reimer and Sorokin is behind Semyon Varlamov out of all starting goaltenders.
- As long as you're under 26 and have fewer NHL games on your resume than the maximum allowed, you're considered a rookie until the rules change. I'm not saying your opinion is a bad one, but that can't be a reason to keep certain players off your list.
- The McDavid/Panarin Calder race is why you and I both have Shesterkin as the top rookie goaltender. However, your sample size is big enough if you lose your rookie eligibility due to the number of games you played in my opinion.
- I'd take Eeli Tolvanen over Josh Norris and Artem Zub over Ty Smith.

In my opinion, the contact was definitely very slight which makes it understandable why Jack Hughes would react the way he did. But it also seemed pretty clear to me that the stick got stuck in Anthony Bitetto's skate. In other words, I believe it was the right call, but this was absolutely not something that earn Hughes some sort of "crybaby reputation" that some Rangers fans were giving him on social media

I should clarify if I was unclear. I'm not saying that Nedjelkovic and Sorokin are backup level goalies, but in terms of usage this season they are getting backup level usage (though Nedjelkovic has arguably been more of a tandem than a backup, and certainly has been the better Goalie between him and Reimer). My biggest sticking point is that I really don't think either one has played enough games. I think that matters when evaluating goalies in terms of awards, and I just don't think that finishing around 22ish games (give or take) in a 56 game season is meaningful enough. Maybe you disagree, but I think it's important.

Also to your other point, I would completely disagree with you about Tolvanen being ahead of Norris. Norris is having a way more impactful season, even though Tolvanen is scoring at a higher rate. Josh Norris is playing in a far more important role, and he's having a much more pronounced impact, especially on the defensive end of things. He'sbeen Stellar defensively. It's insanely difficult to get thrown into the role of defacto number 1 C as a raw rookie, and for him to succeed as he has in that role is absolutely deserving of a spot over Tolvanen.

I felt like Hughes overreacted but it was understandable after the call. He barely even touched him. Of course, some Rangers fans would say that. I saw some of them trying to explain "Kaako>Hughes". I think the games would have been much closer if the Devils stayed out of the box
