Description
Meier deal is a bit of a haul but if NJ wants to add a player like him its not going to be cheap. Zacha is the toughest piece to give up. Realistically that 1st is 3 years away from being impactful and Boqvist just doesn't have a great path to playing prominent minutes and hitting his cieling with 2 #1OA centers in the lineup..
If Flyers want to retool JVR seems like a likely piece to be moved. I'm sure Philly doesnt really want to trade in the division but idk how many other teams can pick up that entire contract. His stats are good tho and he doesn't have negative value so I think a 3rd seems about right. Goalscorer for NJ who can help Jack put up points and then will hopefully be replaced by younger players and prospects when his deal is up in 2 seasons.
Chiarot-Butcher deal seems of some interest to both NJ and MTL fans. Retention for equal salary and a 3rd rounder since Butcher is younger and more potential. MTL gets an offensive puck mover who can play PP1 and NJ gets a more defensive dman to pair with PK.
Seattle: Get Johnsson out of here and protect young assets.
Foote: Sorry Lightning fans. I will continue to virtually offersheet Cal Foote until I am banned from this forum. It seems like such a no-brainer. If you want to match it go ahead, NJ would probably just have to sign more of a plug short term RHD like Larsson. But I've done the math and I dont see how Tampa realistically matches an overpay on Foote.
Reilly: I barely knew him but he looks really good in Boston. Give him a shot in NJ and at worst I think he can be a movable asset at a deadline. Give him 2nd pair minutes and if there is a fit and he sticks around he can eventually fall to pair 3 when Hughes (Luke) comes up.
Bernier: Simple formula in a flat cap world. Short term high $ is an area where NJ has the advantage.

Zacha is finally figuring it out in NJ. I would consider moving Hughes to the wing and Zacha full time 2C. Boqvist and a 1st can net you a pretty good player still.

I see so many posts including will butcher to the Canadiens and I don’t know why. He is not even in the top 6 in jersey, plus Habs have the deepest LD’s in the entire NHL with 8 left D’s as prospects. So Habs say no.

I agree and disagree. Hughes looks great as a center and Zacha was playing better as a winger. I agree that a first and Boqvist could get a pretty good player, maybe a young defensemen like Dunn

Im actually so confused about Meier lol. I clearly have to start watching more Sharks games and get a better vibe on the player myself. I've asked Sharks fans on here what they think he's worth and I don't know if I've heard anything less than a good player a 1st and a B prospect. Based off your response I am thinking that might have been a bit of an overestimation...

In that case, keep what you have and look for another scorer if you'd like. I don't think Meier is the answer though, he peaked when San Jose made the playoffs. I'm not sure how much of a game breaker he'll be in NJ. Dunn is an idea but I think that is too high a cost for him.

Ehhhh I dont know about Sharangovich on a 4th line. Hes playing 2nd line rn and has easily been one of NJ's best players this season. If you are referring to keeping the Wood-McLeod-Bastian line together then I can see that perspective cause they have great chemistry. If anything tho I think that would bump McLeod and Wood down instead of pulling Bastian up. I'd give it a different look to start next season and if it doesnt work out u can always reunite the 3.

I prefer Foote because he is the prospect with the most potential but I can see an argument for Maltsev or any of the other young players really. I would guess with injuries etc. there will be 1-2 spots in the lineup that will be a competition amongst young players all season. Foote, Maltsev, Thompson, Merkley, Mercer, etc. Play well and you stay in. Play poorly and someone might be taking your spot.

He is a good winger, but for that package, we could aim higher. Zacha can produce as much as Meier on the wing, is cheaper, and can also play center anywhere in lineup. Boqvist still has plenty of upside (may need change of scenery).

I’d think Boqvist plus the pick would be enough for Meier (or Labanc).

I have heard that. 'Tis a concern lol. I'd have to imagine that might make the Sharks more willing to move him if they're committing to a rebuild or even retool. And any GM involved in a potential trade would certainly bring that up. Can't help his trade value.

I would do that second deal for either Meier or Labanc. If they could get a very very good top 6 winger (aka what I thought Meier was) for the full package including Zacha I'd also do it. I have absolutely nothing against Zacha and he has been much improved this year but I think the team should try to add a fresh face or 2 who can be impactful high in the lineup.

Also valid haha. It's a weird logjam for the Devils to figure out. Most of their forwards play multiple positions but the majority are left handed. And even though a few lines seem to have found chemistry it hasn't been enough to produce and win games (as you may know judging by ur profile pic). I'm still a fan of trying new pairings out to see if the players can continue to flourish in new spots and be ready to go back to old connections if needed.

If we move Zacha, Hertl would be the target. He is in many ways is the player NJD originally hoped Zacha would be - a power forward 1C.

I’d rather take one of TBL’s cap castaways than Meier. Or even sign a guy like Tatar who might fit more into NJDs possession style hockey.
