Did this deal in a Calgary ACGM.

Flames need a reset imo. Bith Texier and Bemström have game..... and can be fixtures there for a while. But Jackets need a centre and badly. Monahan fits in here nicely with Roslovic as a 1A/1B option.

I don’t dislike the deal but I would replace Texier with Foudy. Foudy gives them a player with more team control and Jarmo is really high on Texier. Doubt he moves him.

jackets don't need to do this. It's clear they are rebuilding getting younger.
They aren't going to trade picks and guys like Tex to try to salvage something.

Oddly, I posted this deal in a Flames ACGM, and it was poo pooed.

In my Flames ACGM, this seems to be the consensus.

Worth discussong to gauge market value.

Appreciate the feedback

Is it clear? Or is it that Laine is a collasal flop as a Jacket making it look so?

If the Jackets got Jets Laine, I think the discussion changes..... they are in the hunt.

Trading two of our more promising forwards/forward prospects for a...2C?

CBJ need a definite 1C, or top-tier wingers. Depleting depth from one position (Texier) and one maybe-guy who have shown that type of potential for someone who may not be a top line 1C...I think just creates a net neutral or negative.

none of this is even remotely true.
Laine is a snipper. He's not a playmaker, he's not a center able to control play etc... He's a snipper. He needs other people on the ice to help him get there.
But CBJ doesn't have anyone capable of doing that. They don't have 1 legit 1 or 2 C on the whole team right now. Those are just facts.

That in the end is what drives the rebuild. Has nothing to do with Laine. Even if Laine Scored 40 goals, they would still have the same problems and still not be a good team.
You don't build teams off the wing. Everyone knows this. It's why C is where the best players in the league are. It's why teams that are playoff bound tend to be strong at C.
PIT - Crosby and Malkin
NYI - Barzal
BOS Bergeron
WSH Backstrom
TOR Mathews - JT
EDM McDavid, Drai
WPG - PLD, PS
MTL - JK, NS
FL Barkov
TB Point
CAR - Svechnikov
COL MacKinnon

I mean really you got one team in VGK who is a legit contender that isn't really particularly strong down the middle.
Everyone else that has any shot of winning anything is.
So this idea that CBJs problems are caused from Laine, or that his bad play is the issue holding the team back is just pure BS.

Truth is, CBJ got the exact same Laine that WPG had. Good shot, not a playmaker, doesn't play strong defense.
That's been him since day one.

If you want to see Laine be a 40 goal scorer again, he needs help to get there. CBJ doesn't have the help to give him.
So the rebuild has to take place as they don't have the pieces needed to be competitive. Honestly, I hope they do trade Laine at some point here for a killing. Because they need that going forward.
But it's not some older player, it's 1st round picks and good prospects.

See where your going..... and it has been pointes out that both maybe too much.

Having said that, it fills an immediate need..... and he is still just 26.

Not disagreeing here, but Roslovic seems to have found his mojo as a Jacket, and Monahan would give a very good secondary option..... when we speak about centres.

Still, if Laine come in and scores 30 (shortened season), Jackets win more games and remain in the hunt.

If anyone is arguing that trading Dubois ushered in a rebuild, I might laugh. Maybe it exposed a real issue in Columbus, but moving a 22 year old should never mean rebuild.

So yes. Laine is a bust as a Jacket. They need to move him, and recoup (all they will do here) the loss. Or, they male a bold move for another centre in hopes of balancing offense.

It a crossroads.

moving a 22 year old should never mean rebuild...so if TOR or EDM moved their 1C at 22 it wouldn't have meant start over?

Clearly that's nonsense.
They lost their best piece and their only real center. He kept it together.
On top of it it's not just about Laine and PLD. They lost Anderson too. They moved Savard and Foligno out.
They aren't taking in some middle 6 center. That's just pure BS and you know it.
Stop trying to defend it.
They are a team in rebuild.

We'll see when Foligno resigns in Comumbus I guess.

Anderson? A deal the Habs won, but at the time a lateral move to Domi with bonus pick. Not many GMs would say no to that..... and it seemed both player and team felt it was time to move on.

If anything, Kekalainen has proven bold and agressive. I don't buy he is hunkering for a full on rebuild - see Panarin and Bobrovsky. The guy doubled down.

I see an offseason of opportunity, where one of the league's best GMs (and he is), goes for it if it presents itself.

Foligno returning doesn't mean much, he's what 34 years old next year. Come on, this teams "core" aged out. They tried to build a younger one and they all bolted.
They are rebuilding that's all there is to it.
