      This makes little sense

1- why would Kopitar waive for here???
2- and why would we want someone his age anyways?
We won’t be near competing for a Cup with him- it would be a waste

And if we trade Eichel, it should be a total rebuild
There’s a reason CGY wants to get rid of Monahan
This roster without Kopitar is still picking top10

      Either keep building around Eichel,
or burn it to the ground & start over

I think that its fair. Monahan just isn't that spectacular. Most flames fans know that he isn't a top line center and that his game heavily relies on his linemates.

However, some of the same could be said of Sam, who also isn't a true center. I think the age difference balances a bit of that, though. Still, Monahan's best days are behind him. The shooting % thing may be true, but its quite notable that Monahan overall just doesn't look as good any more.

      1. cant account for personal decisions, but it helps with LAs cap and Kopitar is the odd man out with Eichel and Byfield.
      2. Rebuild the culture, mentor Cozens
      3. I only trade Eichel if he demands out.
      4. They have Cozens, JJ Peterka, Turcotte (Plus anyone they add in the next 2 drafts with 7 picks in the 1st 2 rounds) - Monahan and Kopitar build a culture and buy them time to grow those 3. Plus who knows what happens with Mittelstadt and Ruotsalainen

LA has other ways to shed Cap
For example, they could send us Quick who doesn’t have an NTC

Kopitar would likely help with the culture, but again- why would he waive???

      No to Monahan
He’s an underperformer who they want out for a reason-
      not a leader

Bringing those guys in would limit the potential ceiling of the team overall
Get younger talent that could be part of the new “core”

      What baffles me is --

Everyone has known for ages that Calgary's issues have been relative to their core. This past offseason they don't touch their core at all, and fill up on depth and shuffle the defensive deck. How bizarre that the team is still not good and that the heavily praised moves of the offseason did nothing.

Its quite evident that the core is not good. Monahan is one of those faces that represents the core, and has seemed to been falling out of favor with most fans. Still, they act as if he can pull the same return as possible 2 years ago when he was producing well. He seems more comparable to Ryan Strome or Max Domi these days. He can fit on the right team, but it has to be a pretty good fit or he will be left out to dry

News to me. Maybe you know Brad personally? All I've heard is how Sutter trusts him a lot and that's why his minutes have gone up noticeably. If you really prefer Reinhart and his soon to be more expensive contract then by all means keep him. Monahan plays the much more important role

No, i don’t know your GM personally- do you?
Then great- I’ll just go by what the experts say instead of your opinion
And yeah, I’d rather have Reinhart
So if we were the GMs then we’d both be happy

The Sabres have a ton of new talent, theyve had it for nearly a decade. They need leadership, and to let the kids develop, not throw them into a top 6 role for them to fail again and again. They cant just fill their team with 12 18-20 year old skilled forwards and expect good results, they need vets and role players.

      But Monahan isn’t a “leader”
      And Kopitar likely wouldn’t waive

Overpay a UFA “leader” or 2... We’ll have the Cap room

Monahan's numbers dipped but hes not a terrible person, he has plenty of playoff experience in tough series

By an increment of a good prospect progressing really well no less 🧐 I mean I agree with the valuation but Ruzicka being 13th in the AHL in goals at 21 is big

If Kopitar is involved in an Eichel trade, you're not getting that much back. Either the first or Turcotte and no ****emo. Maybe a lesser piece like Clague or Walker.

This would be an easy no from LA.

If Kopitar is involved in an Eichel trade, you're not getting that much back. Either the first or Turcotte and no ****emo. Maybe a lesser piece like Clague or Walker.

This would be an easy no from LA.

If this was a trade for Kopitar 7 years ago, then Buffalo adds in an Eichel for Kopitar swap.
