Description
For all the talk about Loui and Rooster, Myers's is by far the worst contract Benning has signed. Getting rid of him should be priority #1 this summer IMO. His contract is already negative value and we'll be paying him well into our Cup window. A future 1st at the expansion draft is a small price to pay, if Seattle agrees.

I haven't heard any speculation about us signing Dougie Hamilton, but I think it makes a lot of sense. Obviously he'll have multiple suitors, but getting him would give us an elite top D pairing for the foreseeable future. It might create cap issues down the road but we need an upgrade at RD and players of Hamilton's calibre are rarely available in FA.

Let me know what you think!

Yeah I watched him quite a bit on the Leafs (live in the GTA) so I get where you're coming from. He didn't look bad in the few games he played for us pre-outbreak and he has (or at least had) a good amount of potential. I wouldn't completely give up on him yet.

There will be higher bidders out there throwing Pietrangelo money at him on the open market, the Oilers have enough cap space to freely give him 8.8 without hesitation. So you have to give him a reason to why taking somewhat of a pay cut is worth it if he’s playing for the Canucks cause this is his last big contract. Canucks haven’t proved themselves a winning team all year.

That's fair. I originally was gonna give him 5x9 and trade Virtanen but i figured with the flat cap maybe we could get him for 8. I'd sign him at 5x9 if that's what it took though.

A lot of teams will covet him I feel despite the flat cap, who knows anything could happen, but in reality he wants the best chance to win with the money he deserves and it’s reported that he wants a deal around Pietrangelo but Hurricanes are offering him 6.5 mill so maybe he takes that as an insult and doesn’t resign 🤷🏻‍♂️ Who knows, that 9x8 years could do it though but he’s your highest paid player, is he worth that?

I also don’t know why, but I have a feeling Benning will have more interest in Barrie again like last off season cause his cost will be around 5-6 mill but he plays a lot like Hughes so idk how thatll work

Bona-fide top-pairing RHDs are hard to come by, so I'd say yes, Hamilton is absolutely worth 9 million. I don't love the 8 year term but I'd probably still do it, tbh.

We do not need Barrie, and while I really hope we stay far away from him, knowing Benning he'll probably end up signing him for 8x8 with a NMC.

Loool this if he loses out on Hamilton, having too much pride he’ll panic buy

This seems like the most likely scenario, unfortunately for us.

Jets also will have the money to throw at Dougie. With Lowry extended, the writing is on the wall for Copp. He doesn’t really have an expansion draft protection spot, and with him and his agent filing for arb last year, they likely do it again even if he stays and walk him to FA. IMO Jets either trade him at the draft for a top 4 dman, or they get seattle to take beaulieu and trade Copp to them for a 2nd or 3rd if they can’t find a suitor at the draft.

Jets will have 8-9.75m to throw at dougie.

Is it a smart move to throw 8-9.7 mill at Dougie?? Idk if Pionk can play left side very good, but Dougie will take his 1st pair and PP minutes likely would he not? wouldn’t a great top 4 LHD and a good top 9 forward be much better management?

Seattle prefers to an NHL player at 6m not named Myers and don't need that 1st rounder. Their goal is to be good immediately not to Jam up their lineup with "negative" contracts.
Hamilton signing in Vancouver? I don't think it's in Hamilton interest or really the Canucks either.

Is it smart? Maybe, the issue isn’t being log jammed on the right side. The left side is the log jammed side. With Heinola and samberg on their way, Stanley has already made major improvements and IMO could be pushing for the 2LD spot next year. The right side of the Jets is much weaker. They have hardly any RD prospects that have a chance at being a player. They need to upgrade on poolman. Also it’s Morrissey playing PP1, not pionk. They’d just run:

    Morrissey-Hamilton
    Stanley-Pionk
    Heinola-DeMelo

Hamilton gets PP1 time, Pionk gets PP2 time. Both units usually get 1 minute per powerplay, so not a whole lot will change.

Plus for their top 9, they have a guy in Harkins who can immediately replace Copp, the Jets would just need to find a 4th liner that’s a PK specialist to replace copps PK time.

I’ve heard a lot of Jets fan complaining about Morrissey’s play on the first pair from time to time and what about their top 6? Isn’t Stastny gone?

Nah, I think stastny will resign. Probably 3-4m for 1-2 years.

Also, the main issue with Morrissey is the revolving door of partners he’s had. Whenever hes with one guy for a sustained amount of time he does great. Like Jacob trouba for example, wasn’t the greatest dman, but him and Morrissey developed real chemistry and it worked. Getting Hamilton long term would solve that issue.
