Explications
Vrana looked great in his first game and Zadina and Ras really look like they have made major strides and are going to be really good players for us.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love the high draft pick, but it's encouraging to see all the young guys growing before our eyes and playing some damn good hockey.

After these last few years of bad luck and dropping, how funny would it be if they won the lottery this year?

I mean Owen Power would be a great pick for Detroit if they won it. But Luke Hughes might be just as good.

I really like Hughes personally, but obviously either one of them would be great and even if we draft lower, like you said, there is some really good talent in the top 10.

If that happens, you are required to trade for Quinn.

Yup even Guenther and Kent Johnson look like they can be top line players. Maybe not elite top line players but like a Forsberg type, 60-70 pt players.

They go wildcard and convert Quinn to a LW to play up front with Jack, haha

I think Veleno will probably spend the rest of the season in Grand Rapids and hopefully, has a good playoff run there. As for Seider, the SHL team he is on, Rogle, is actually a favorite to possibly win the championship there and he's a major piece of that team, so I doubt we'll see him this season, but he's all but a lock to open the season with the Wings next year.

Yeah it stinks our pick looks like it won’t be as high as hoped, but it’s really encouraging to see our young players developing and making steps. Picks mean nothing if the player doesn’t make any progress and turn into something - it’s good to see some progress lately

What does Detroit do moving forward at RD? Hronek, Stecher and Lindstrom all look like they can play. Add Seider to the group and there’s one too many, can one play on the left?

My loose theory, is that they buried Lindstrom this season, in hopes that they could sneak him through the expansion draft, unprotected and planned to protect Cholowski if he progressed. At this point though, I have to imagine they'll protect Lindstrom, Stetcher and Hronek and take their chances with Cholowski getting taken.

I could see any one of them sliding over to the left side if needed, but I imagine the plan is to shore up the left side and then maybe try and trade Stetcher, while his stock is high, as Lindstom would slot in perfectly as a 3rd pairing guy, who kills penalties, whereas Hronek, Seider and Stetcher would be considered more top 4 guys who generate offense.

I've loved Stetcher here, so I'd be bummed to see him go, but it just makes the most sense to me, long term.

At this point I have no idea why we would bother protecting Cholowski unless he miraculously shows something to end the season. I agree that would have been my plan before but Hronek is a guarentee, I would like them to protect Lindstrom that’s a valuable future depth guy... and Stecher is just better than Cholo so unless you try to trade him before expansion which nobody would partner with, let them take Cholo doubt they want him.

Who gets selected from Detroit? Names? Svech? Smith?

My gut tells me that Yzerman will protect Erne and Namestikov of those 4 and we'll end up losing Smith, which will suck. There's also the chance that Yzerman packages up Panik with a mid round pick. That's kinda my ideal scenario.

Yea, but that's a good problem to have. I feel like you go to camp and let the problem sort itself out. Especially with injuries, at a position like defense, you can never have too much depth and if it comes down to it, maybe we end up in a fortuitous trade situation.
