I'd understand the potential retiring risk if his injuries were more towards the upperbody, say head or back injuries. They tend to end careers the most.
The current injury is undisclosed, but these rotten luck injuries Stammer has sustained throughout his career have been usually related to either core muscle injuries or lower body injuries.
Think his only sustained health hazard that might threaten his career was that blood clot in 2016, so if he has tendency of developing those, retiring might come to a question.
But as far as I know, I don't think there's nothing to suggest that would point out to him retiring. Nor would it be a good thing for Tampa either. Sure, they shed some cap, but they also lose their captain and one of their top forwards. Stamkos is an absolute elite player and top notch goal scorer. The only forward in the league who has managed to break 60 goals in one season from 2010s to this day.
