Evidently Jets went after him at the TDL. I know Jets fans will call this an overpay but theres 0 reason for CBJ to trade him. Good, cheap young top 4 LHD with term, of course you will have to overpay for him

Gosh that's so bad for the jets. Maybe if that's only a second round pick. Heinola is their best prospect, except for maybe Perfetti.

I think theres a big difference between "inquiing" and "tried to get". You hear that and its an immediate hang up for the Jets

AND anything else is bad for cbj. InA vacuum yes its an overpay but with context.. jets would have had to overpay. Im just saying this is what cbj would have asked for

The problem with this is that the jets have no reason to trade Heinola. Heinola likely is going to be better than Gavrikov.

Jets fans mistake overpaying with not wanting to part with certain pieces. As great as Heinola *might* be, he’s not been shown to be a top 4 piece even if he probably will be. I don’t think they should give him up but it seems like they see a 1st or top prospect for a top 4 defenseman now is too much. And they will be without that top 4 guy until that changes.

Gavrikov should get a 1st and lesser prospect IMO.

He will likely be better. He isn’t playing in the NHL at the mo so he doesn’t help them win now, which Gavrikov does. It’s all about competition windows.

CBj fans mistake Gavrikov as a top 4 defenseman just because he plays in the top 4 for Columbus, whose defense behind their top 2 is...well pretty bad. Especially without Savard now. I mean saying Gavrikov is a top 4 dman and worth at least a 1st and prospect is like pens fans trying to say Matheson is a top 4 D and worth a 1st and prospect just because he played with Marino in the top 4 for a good portion of the season.

But that doesn’t mean they should trade him specifically for a bottom pair/depth dman. I mean Gavrikov isn’t really any better than what they have now. What dman is he an upgrade over? I mean I’d assume they were inquiring because of Beaulieu injury, not cause they were totally desperate.

Heinola is arguably one of our better dman already. He’s not playing because he’s too small and not strong enough. If he packs on 5–10 lbs he’ll be a top 4 guy next year for sure. In his first stint in the NHL, he was easily one of our best dman, but it was evident he wasn’t physically ready. He’s been tearing up the AHL this year. Not putting up a crazy amount of points, but his overall play has been really good.

I do agree that CBJ likely would’ve asked for this, and Winnipeg would have for sure declined. But I also get that you give up quality to get quality. I don’t necessarily think gavrikov is worth this, but I do think he’s worth a 1st and a c prospect.

Any trade this year that had Perfetti or Heinola in it was a non starter for Chevy. I think he would’ve moved Kovacevic/Green and a 1st for Gavrikov though. That package seems fair to both sides for me. If not Jets could have added another pick.

I’m of the belief that the Jets only should have traded for a dman if they were a pure rental, too many guys coming up to acquire someone with term. So while yes gavrikov would’ve been nice, the price likely was too high for them to create a log jam on the left side. Think Chevy may have seen it the same way.

No chance Winnipeg would consider moving Heinola at all for Gavrikov. If Gavrikov was better, an RD and had more than 2 years left maybe, but as it stands in this offer, no.

A LHD with term was what Chevy was inquiring about at the TDL??! With Morrissey locked up long term, Heinola and Samberg close and Stanley playing well he's looking for a LHD, wtf is he thinking, not that Gavrikov couldn't help this crappy defense but he's really not what they need unless he can play his offhand idk.

Agree with everything here. I’m a Wild fan and I see a fit for Dumba, but I’m not holding my breath for Heinola. He and Perfetti are too important for the future. But the issue is that the defense needs to be better and the window is closing fast. I heard a quote that said Chevy was “all in”, except for those guys and his 1st which told me he wasn’t all in. The Jets need a d man to help now and as great as Heinola will be, he doesn’t help them now.

Oh I agree for sure. Dumba is 1000% a fit. He’s exactly what we need as a partner for Morrissey. He has a nice shot that could be very useful on PP1 as we have no point threat.

I’d be curious as to what MIN is doing for the expansion draft. Chevy could probably help the wild out if they plan on doing 7-3-1. Maybe like Gustafsson + 2nd for dumba? Gustafsson is going to be a killer 3rd line C. His defensive game is quite good for a 20 year old, and he has some offensive upside. He reminds me of Adam Lowry, with less physical edge and more of a offensive game.

I think Chevy was in on 2 big trades, and lost the time to fall back on a solid smaller deal. Also I agree, I know Heinola is going to be great, but he’s not going to make a Stanley cup winning difference for 2-3 years. Would have been nice to see Chevy add a top 4 rental like an Oleksiak or a Murray. Two guys that didn’t get moved.

As far as expansion, Dumba will not be lost to Seattle as the expansion pick unless they trade assets back. He’ll be protected or traded, and expansion shouldn’t be an impact in the return. I think BG knows other GMs are trying to make him flinch but there is no reason to, just lose Greenway instead.

As for a trade, I guarantee you the ask is Heinola plus but probably ends up being a 1st and Gustafsson. He’s got 2 years left on his deal and he’s a top pair defenseman, that should get a 1st and a B prospect. I also like what I’ve seen from Gustafsson, he’s probably the only guy that really moves the needle outside of Perfetti and Heinola.

Maybe Chevy was thinking of getting an LD with term at the TDL so that it would free up one of the Jets LD prospects to trade for a RD with term in the summer. sarcasm

Never met him. Probably a great person. But judging by what I’ve seen of his play, his stats, his possession stats, nothing screams top 4 about him. Not saying he can’t grow into one. Just saying, I can’t think of a contending team that would have him in their top 4 outside of injury replacement. There is no way in hell there is a case that Gavrikov gets a 1st and prospect this year unless it’s to a team that has no defense and doesn’t have 3 dmen worth protecting for expansion. With how Columbus has played this year, I don’t think it would have been smart for Columbus to even entertain a trade for Gavrikov this year. He’d probably command more at the draft or offseason.

Well they know better than to actually think Winnipeg accepts this. Heinola is one of the best d prospects in the whole league. The jets aren't giving him away for an average second pairing guy.
