NYR Acquiring Eichel Scenario

Description
Rangers have two options. The first option is to keep the youth, keep the young talent, and head into next season further developing the youngsters. This could go either very well, or show some promise but clearly missing the playoffs again.

Or, the Rangers go after Eichel. They have the cap space, the young talent, and the goalie that the Sabres will need to add with or without Ullmark being re-signed.

It's a fair trade. Not sure if Rangers would be willing to trade that much, but Eichel will make this team a powerhouse with Panarin, Zibanejad, and the increasing skilled players of Buchnevich, Kakko, LaFreniere. Not to mention a solid blue line and top caliber goalie.

What do you think? Should the Rangers go for this. Should the Sabres? Not many teams have the prospect depth, the cap space, and the money to actually pay Eichel his contract.

It is absolutely not a fair trade.

Remove the other two pieces, and just make it for eichel, and it’s still not fair.

What you’ve done is take a whole bunch of pieces you don’t hate losing, and packaged them together. Not going to work. If you’re trading for jack eichel, there’s going to have to be a piece going the other way that hurts. Don’t tell me it’s lundkvist. He’s an okay prospect, nothing more.

Just for eichel it would take one of kakko or lafreniere, who have both looked brutal, a first, and one of the top prospects, and probably something else.

This offer is really low.

Sabres wouldn't accept. But I really don't think Rangers need to pull off an Eichel trade, anyway.

Strome has maintained a strong level of play (with and without Panarin). Zibenejad found his game in tremendous fashion. And Chytil gradually continues to improve. With those Top 3 Centers set (amidst a group of youngsters that have drastically improved over the course of this shortened Season), they really don't need to make a move.

Keep all the pieces together (with Lundkvist, Jones and Barron joining the party soon) and stay the course. After 21-22, when they debate whether to keep Zibenejad and Strome, then perhaps they can contemplate a Center trade when there is a greater need.

Also a possibility Hertl (meh) and Barkov (YESSSS!!!) could hit Free Agency and become options to bring in without pulling off a trade.

Mittelstadt is better than Chytil. Howden is a bottom 10 player in the league and Georgiev isn't really good yet.

This offer is really low, but Lundkvist is one of the most exciting Defensive Prospects around. Much better than "OK".

No he isn’t. He’s a very late first rounder that’s a good skater and is playing in an lesser league finding some success. He’s very undersized and i can’t say he’s done anything to improve his stock since the draft. He’s still a lottery ticket. Maybe he’s the next torey krug, or maybe he’s one of the hundreds of undersized d men that can’t hack it.

This ain’t even close. You’d have to blow up the team to make it work. Like Chytil, Kakko, Lundkvist, Shesterkin, and a 1st for Eichel alone and that still likely isn’t enough.

We all tend to be a bit hyperbolic when we are describing the players for our team.
Let's agree that both Chytil and Mittelstadt are close and both have done extremely well in that past 8 games each have 7 pts with Casey having 5 goals while Filip has only 2.
Filip is playing a much better team that has 36% more goals than Buffalo.
Let me add, Casey's play has blossomed one "Soccer Genius" was fired and put on a line with Thompson and Asplund.
Lundkvist appears to be a very good piece, but he is only prospect while Jokiharju performs exceptionally well playing with Dahlin.
That leaves Strome, Georgiev, Howden, and 2021 3rd round pick (BUF) for Eichel.
All of the NYR fans who have been saying Strome is playing well are correct, but the other three pieces are insignificant at best and add very little value to the trade.
So this trade will not bring Eichel to the Rangers.

TBH, if Buffalo were to trade Jack, Sabre fans will be very disappointed with the return.
@CMcAvoy73 said it best "Remove the other two pieces, and just make it for Eichel, and it’s still not fair."
I also agree with @Shakabakes the rangers should not trade for Eichel unless it is a huge underpayment.
Please answer @Devil1122 "Explain to me how that's a fair trade".

How so? Up and coming 21 year old center. A proven center. One of the best touted young dmen in Sweden. A solid goalie who is still young. A depth center who is still 21...22.

Big stars with huge contracts have, historically, returned very little compared to that.

It's not, and all star players with huge contracts never get the return that you expect. That is a fact. You are also way off on Lundkqvist who had an excellent season and is touted as one of the best, maybe the best, young dmen in Sweden. You are way off there.

What did Taylor Hall fetch in his prime for Edmonton? Scott Gomez to MTL from NYR? Hossa from ATL to PIT. Kovalchuk to NJD. Selanne to SJ. Seguin to DAL. Burns to SJ. Jagr to WSH, and to NYR. Brad Richards to DAL.

You would give Fs to all those trades, of all those star players, and would be saying the same thing. If I were to propose those trades before they actually happened, you would not call them fair.

Don't expect Eichel to fetch something much better than what I put in there.

Yeah, Pittsburgh got an awesome deal for Jagr when trading him to Washington. Did you find that enough for a Hall of Famer?

Chances are slim he hits the market, yes. But until I see the ink dry on a new Contract, I consider him an option for now.

Especially if it doesn't get signed over the Summer.

Rangers fans evaluate him as such. The rest of the league doesn’t. You’re right that most premier players don’t get the trade value we expect. However, its ridiculous rare that 24 year old superstar centers with 4 years left on their deal get dealt. We haven’t seen that for a long long time.

What does that have to do with anything? Just because one team makes a bad trade of a future hall of famer means that every gm will do it? That’s insanely dumb logic.
